Life Update: I'm NOT Quitting Blogging

Happy Friday!  I apologize to all loyal and casual readers alike who check my blog and have found it to be way less updated than usual lately.  I have been at odds with blogging for some time now and that has only increased since my move to Los Angeles.
Me and my friend Kristin at Second City wear similar tops and identical shoes.  Note that I'm in (fun) pants because Second City wasn't using heat during 50 degree nights...burr!

I promise I'm not quitting blogging though.  However, I may be slowly redirecting the blog somewhat.  I'll expand in a later post about where some of my inner conflict of maintaining a style blog is coming from in a future post, but for now I will cop to that my lifestyle has changed greatly and therefore my style has changed.  I thought moving to southern California would mean that it would be very easy to wear my preferred style of dresses or skirts with mixed patterned tops every day.  In retrospect that was an adorable notion!  To be the best comedian I can be, I've taken a bunch of performance classes and they often require pants as movement is frequently involved.  I still love the vintage style and I still strongly prefer dresses.  But personal style is ever evolving and my life is currently forcing a bit of a change.
Me with some of my closest friends in the city.  I met up with them after an improv class, so here I am in pants!

I'm strongly considering making this more of a lifestyle blog, but the kind of lifestyle blog that only I could bring you.  I have some travel posts that have been collecting dust that I'm going to be posting ASAP.  I also will continue to do some outfit and shopping posts.  And if I ever get personal time to read again, I will bring back Blair Reads Books.  But despite that I'm on the more private end of the blogging spectrum, I may share more of my life with you, like how I've decorated my apartment, my shows at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater and Second City, and just the process of being a comedian.  I've been testing the waters with my puppet posts (which weirdly is not a gimmick in that puppetry is a huge part of my life currently--see below) and I've shared more from my real life on my Instagram than ever before involving my new life in LA (largely surrounding my comedy life).  Perhaps my blog will get more niche, but I've been at this a few years and I need to spice things up a bit.  The next few weeks I'll be experimenting and it may not work.  I may go back to blogging ONLY about clothes (again, clothes are NOT totally leaving this blog).   What can promise is that I'm not quitting and I'm not trying to switch and bait on you guys.  I've hit walls creatively and my current lifestyle is forcing my hand to re-evalute the direction I take this blog in if I want consistency in the future.
Now I'm in a skirt (finally) but this candid photo of me and my friend Stephanie in my current and "normal" every day life is more absurd than your average style blogger's real life pics, no?

Thank you in advance for bearing with me.  I appreciate everyone who has stuck by my blog throughout the nearly four years I've had it.  I've had illness bouts where I've had to take breaks and Instagram (which is every blogger's business card and historically as important as the blog itself) has been an utter nightmare for me the past year (I'll save that for another post...), so I'm truly grateful for everyone who is with me after all of this time.  Please leave any and all feedback about future posts and I will take those comments to heart.
My new comedy partner, Jesse Merrill!  I can't wait to show you guys what we've been working on and I hope you'll be excited too!

The next week is going to be a bit nuts as I have my FIRST show at Second City, my first two shows with my NEW comedy troupe, Pinup Squirrels (how great is that name??), my second show at UCB, and one of my very best friend is coming into town later next week for nearly a week.  So I don't want to be crazy and promise content over the next week.  But I'm coming back the week after that!  Thank-you again for your patience and commitment!
My first ever Upright Citizen's Brigade show last month!  I'm planning on writing about this show in early March!

Have an awesome weekend/week, please follow me on Instagram to see pics of the FIRST EVER puppet improv show that Second City Hollywood is having (that I'm in!!), and I will catch up with y'all next week sometime!
XOXO

Go CUBS!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
