Virgin Suicides Chic

On one of my last days in Denver I walked up and down the strip of the Baker neighborhood--my personal favorite neighborhood and where I was living the last year of my tenure in Denver--and did some shopping.  There's tons of vintage stores and other random novelty stores.  Not knowing when I'd be back in Denver I wanted to soak it all in.  At the Buffalo Exchange in the Baker neighborhood I found this lovely 1970s vintage maxi dress and it fit me to a tee.  Vintage shopping is tricky because you never know what you will find, and out of all of the actual vintage clothing stores in the hood, plus the Good Will and Buffalo Exchange, I only found this dress.  I was happy to have found something oh-so-70s as a parting gift from Denver.

Part of why I love 1970s fashion so much is because there's so much dichotomy in it.  A gown like this is simultaneously glamorous and yet a little frumpy.  I love dressing up for life, so the glamour part appeals to me.  But sometimes being understated and not overtly sexy is also appealing to me.  Hence I love 1970s fashion!

This dress also reminds me of the prom dresses from The Virgin Suicides.  I know that's probably not an inherently complimentary statement, but in Blair's World it is.
Love them or hate them, these dresses are statement pieces.  Because of this I keep the accessorizing simple.  I wore my color block Nine West wedges that match the colors of the dress, my admittedly eye grabbing Kate Spade T-Rex bag, and my pelican brooch from Erstwilder.

How is everyone's week going?  Mine is crazy because I ended my first term at The Second City Hollywood last night!  It's so weird I'm going to have two weeks off!  Last night I got a photo of most of my class from a Web Series class and if you look at it on Instagram you will see me gush about everyone.  I love so many people from my classes but I can honestly say everyone in this particular class is especially driven and I expect them to grace your television sets one day (even if it's in the creator/writer credits and not acting on screen, though they all very well may be both).  I've been showcasing more of my comedy life at Second City and Upright Citizen's Brigade on my Insta feed and in my stories lately, and I promise that alone is worth the follow because you'll be meeting some faces that will one day be famous.  And you don't know me in real life, but I'm really not nice just to be nice.  I only say this type of compliment if I mean it ;)  Have a great Wednesday!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
