Hanging on the Telephone

Hello!  I feel like I've been throwing a lot of dresses at you lately so today I'm getting back to my 'Queen of Skirts' roots by wearing this oldie but goodie skirt via Romwe.  I can never get over this print!  It's cool and funky and yet ultra feminine.

I received this ModCloth shirt (Cafe au Soleil Sleeveless Top in Telephones) a few weeks back and while I love it, I can't truly rave about it.  I really adore ModCloth's namesake house brand and find their dresses and skirts to be 100% quality.  Their shirts?  Well, they're fun but VERY thin fabric wise.  I'm terrified this won't make it past a few washes, but we shall see.  Other than that, the fit is fine (XS for measure).

You know I had to mix prints!  I just can't help myself with these things!  If you were to look at this Romwe skirt closely you would see it actually has navy blue in the sunglass lenses instead of black but it's so dark it looks (and photographs) as black.  So by using the blue blackish in the skirt and the red background to match the (actual) black and red in the top, it makes this mixing of prints look put together and not sloppy.  Finding a central theme or color is key to mixing prints!  To see a more streamlined non-mixed prints styling of this outfit, click HERE.
To keep the theme of the outfit central I chose my classic Nine West Flax Pumps in red and my black BCBG Max Azria bag (via Marshalls).  To have some extra fun I added my Ruby the Booby brooch from Erstwilder-- one of my all-time favorite brooches!  It adds further whimsey but still colors inside the lines with this outfit as it's blue and blue is a main color on the skirt.

I hope everyone has a lovely day!

  1. That skirt is funny and beautiful. Lovely print dear!

  2. What a cool print on this skirt, it's very unique and effective! I love how you can mix and match print so well! :)

  3. This is such a fun print mix and you're right the colours work beautifully together! I hope that the shirt does hold up to being washed as it's a lovely print! :)

Hope you are having a lovely weekend! We are getting our family Santa photo done tomorrow, gotta get a move on with my Christmas cards, haha! :)

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
