Hey, all! Happy Wednesday! This bright and cheery outfit seems fun and bold, right? If you agree, there's a reason! One little trick to dressing in a snappy, eye catching, and seamless way is to use opposite colors to make things POP. How does one do this? Use the color wheel:
See how the purple is directly opposite from the yellow? Because they're on the opposite side of the spectrum they look really bold while they're together. Blues and oranges have the same effect, as well as red/pinks with greens. So if you're ever stumped on how to make a colorful outfit choice but don't know where to begin, this is a great start!!
I'm wearing the purple Vanity Hell Bunny dress that I recently acquired from eBay! It's so many girls "unicorns" (ugh, that term drives me crazy. It's so common it's totally basic--sorry, not sorry) that I'm surprised nobody bid on it. I wanted it because I don't have nearly enough purple dresses, but I coulda sworn other girls wanted this dress more. Or at least they used to. I'm starting to get curious about the vintage reproduction world. I've been in it for 4+ (ish) years and it seems some trends come and go. Of course I don't mean "trends" in the traditional sense as most of us in this scene are not conventionally trendy. However, some brands have been falling in and out of favor. And there's so many brands, pieces, and styles out there that I think smaller subcultures within this subculture has cropped up. And after so many years, I suppose some pieces that were once highly sought after have lost their appeal. It's happened to me; there used to be way more things I was trying to track down and now I just am on the hunt for one or two things. Between not tracking down so many items and getting frustrated as well as narrowing down my taste, meh. What are your thoughts?? Do you still desperately want all of the things you wanted that got away or have you lost interest in some items as the years went by? Either or, if you want to read about how much brands typically re-sell for down the line READ HERE.
Involving the rest of the outfit, I decided to with double polka dots! I got this yellow polka dot cardigan from J Crew factory months back and I'm obsessed (seriously, look out for it in SEVERAl upcoming posts!). I initially picked my purple Erstwilder unicorn brooch (via Pinup Girl Clothing) to make all of the purples pop, but I suppose it works in the sense that this is (was?) so many girls unicorn dress! I decided to be playful with another color, pink, involving my Chinese Laundry pumps, Kate Spade T-Rex bag, and Kate Spade Imagination earrings.
As some people have noted, these pics (which also appear on my Instagram) are still from my balcony in Denver--despite that on Insta I've tagged them in Los Angeles! Between being sick last month and being super focused on the big move to California, I'm backed up with posts! At least 7 more posts are coming out using this background. As for the future outfit photos...I'm still figuring that out! I played around with some places in my new apartment (indoors) with mixed results. I need to upload them and perhaps edit a bit to see if I choose to use them. I have a balcony here but it's top floor (no roof) and has direct sunlight nearly all day (for non-photographers: that's the hardest lighting to work with because it's very hard to not be washed out--especially if you're photographing yourself on your own). TBA- but at least I have some time to figure it out!
