Bernie Dexter Mari Dress in Tropical Print Review!

Greetings!  I've been foaming at the mouth for a Mari dress by Bernie Dexter since she debuted them (...earlier this year??  Time is blurring together and I can no longer remember how new versus old this style is!!) and I finally got my hands on TWO!  This is actually my second Mari dress but I've fallen WAY behind in posting due to having a nasty head cold at the end of September and then moving to California.  I decided to review this Mari Dress in Tropical Print first because a) it's limited edition and b) I strayed from my normal sizing!!

A few weeks back Bernie Dexter debuted two new prints (in both the Mari and Kelly style each) in this Tropical print and in a print called Hawaiian Delight.  I have next to no grey dresses in my wardrobe and fell hard for the burgundy (almost like a brown in real life) with the bright yellow in the pattern.  This Mari feels like the epitome of classic style from yesteryears so I really wanted it.  Bernie (who is now in the Facebook group, Bernie Dexter Collective, and posts news on there so I'd recommend joining if you haven't already!) released a coupon code and then announced via the FB group that these two new prints were limited edition and that most new pieces were going to have a smaller run production wise.  Knowing I wanted this dress, I opted to purchase immediately with the code but my typical XS was already sold out!

I believe I was at the height of my head cold when all of this went down, so small decisions felt huge.  I wasn't sure what to do.  I could wait to see if someone didn't like their extra small in the FB group or eBay and get an XS that way, though I could be waiting for weeks if not years for those stars to align.  I could also get a small and hope it fit OK, and if not shrink or alter it.  None were super ideal, but I opted for the latter.  Honestly, the small Maris fit okay on XS girls like me.  In real life it's a little noticeably big but not in photos.  I'm going to try to shrink it a bit, but the belt helps cinch everything in!

As you will soon see in my second Mari post, I not only love the Mari dress but the XS fits perfectly. However, if you are in a jam and have similar sizing as I do, you should be okay in the small.  Considering Bernie said a lot (if not all) dresses in the future will be in smaller quantities, I hope this shopping anecdote is helpful!!

I kept accessorizing really light here, as I wanted the dress to completely stand alone.  I'm wearing my Erstwilder palm tree brooch and it is practically camouflage with this print!  I have these grey Steve Madden shoes via DSW that I paired with the Mari dress to make grey my central color.

As I've mentioned, I'm officially in Los Angeles now!  I'm liking it quite a bit so far but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have culture shock for one collective hour a day!!  The traffic is whatever (sitting in traffic sucks no matter where you are, regardless for how long) but it's the density that's freaking me out!  There's SO many highways and almost everything is either impossible to park at or impossible to pull out of due to one ways/dividers in the road, etc!  I'll get used to it, but it's been a while since I've been in SUCH a concrete jungle!  (Denver is a big and growing city, but nothing like New York, LA, Miami, or Chicago.)  Today I start classes with Second City Hollywood (I've been with them online for a year but now I get to do it in person) and tomorrow I start at Upright Citizen's Brigade!  Wish me luck!
XOXO

Go CUBS!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
