Vintage Novelty Print Farm Skirt

Hey, all!  I'm writhing this from a plane.  I'm literally in the sky as I blog!  We are in the future as far as I'm concerned; who cares about flying cars?

Anyway, I got this BEAUTIFUL bad boy earlier this summer from a Facebook group dedicated to  loving vintage goods.  I have quite a few vintage novelty print skirts (I'm a medium to hardcore collector) but I've cooled my jets a bit this year.  This 1940s farm print skirt came up and I immediately fell in love.  It's unlike anything else in my collection as it has a black background, tons of greens, and a non-kitsch cartoon print of farm animals (many prints of animals are close to literal sketches or actually known or weird looking cartoons).  The color scheme in this is also quite unique; I don't believe I have too many green pieces in my vintage novelty print skirt collection.  Honestly, the photos don't do this justice.  The colors are a lot more vibrant in person and it's just cool in ways I can't describe.  I'm honestly considering wearing this to my birthday party later this month.

Rounding out the outfit I chose basic black (which I've done a lot lately, admittedly) and pops of orange with my Atomic Lucite Soap brooch and my Kate Spade orange crossbody.  It only pseudo shows in photos, but there are muted orange undertones in the skirt which is why I opted for orange accessories.  Though it's fall and it wouldn't be widely inappropriate, I think the yellow and green balances out the orange and black and don't make this look "halloween-y"!  I haven't yet decided how else I want to style this skirt in the future--which is rare for me!  Usually upon receiving an item I effortlessly brainstorm tons of ideas.  I'm stumped on this one because black works so well with it!

As I mentioned, I'm on a plane.  I'm coming back to Denver today after a trip from New York City visiting friends.  It was fun and at times, honest to goodness silly.  Within the next few weeks I'm planning on a few posts about my trip!  I'll be back to blogging next week (with both blogs) and comedy stuff will be coming immediately after that.  So many new things are coming, as well as stay tuned by following me below to not miss a beat!  Have a lovely weekend and we'll catch up soon!

  1. I am in LOVE with this skirt! Vintage novelty prints are a recent passion of mine, and now I'm dying for one with animals on it! Also: blogging from the sky is definitely a 'the future is now!' kind of moment!

  2. You look lovely and I hope you are fine! I think the skirt is beautiful and yes, the colors are perfect together, not like Halloween :) I also loved the sandals! Hope you have a very nice weekend!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
