Hello! Welcome back to Twinsie Tuesday! Today I am featuring one of my Instagram friends, Sam (@sammwhatever) in a fraternal look from Trashy Diva. The Trashy Diva Mahjong print dropped about a year ago and I think it's going to go down as one of the more beloved prints once it's gone because it's so cheerful and versatile. Sam has the Trashy Diva Annette dress (which I LOVE and totally almost got) and I'm wearing the skirt (I forget the name of this skirt as I'm still memorizing all of the cuts and it's sold out, but I believe it's the Circle skirt. A mini skirt version is still available HERE and the entire collection that's still for sale is HERE).
Sam is another Instagram fashionista who currently does not blog, so she'll be getting two extra questions at the end. And she's also a photographer with a corresponding Facebook page, which you can totally check out HERE. We probably could have twinned in several outfits because our closets have QUITE a few overlaps, but I put out a call on Instagram for someone to twin with me specifically in Trashy Diva since the brand has been my favorite of the summer and I couldn't immediately recall who I had what items in common with. Sam thankfully came to rescue and we decided to twin in the TD Mahjong print! Her photos are gorgeous and I like how different our looks are here, so you'll definitely have quite a few brainstorming ideas if you're looking to style this print! So without further ado, let's get our Twinsie Tuesday on!
What was your process for styling this outfit?
Sam: I wanted to pull a color from this dress and have my accessories match.
Lauren-Blair: I initially wanted to pair this with navy, but I couldn't find the top I needed! I took a chance on a darker printed top from ModCloth not really knowing if it would work. I love to edge out mid-century looks, but I've never done that with Trashy Diva before. I think it worked out though and I want to style it like this again!
Sam: I wear Trashy Diva almost everyday now! I bought my first TD dress a little over a year ago and fell in love. I think they have a great mix of novelty prints, work wear appropriate clothes and their dresses are super comfortable! Also pockets ftw!
Lauren-Blair: Historically not as often, but this has been my "Summer of Trashy Diva" for sure! I'm officially a fan girl now and wear them at least weekly.
Sam: I wear this one at least once a month.
Lauren-Blair: This is my second or third go around, but I've had it for under a year.
Sam: I originally had the skirt in this print, but kept seeing photos of other lovely ladies in the dress and decided to sell my skirt and buy the dress. It had looked so flattering on everyone and I liked that you could pair it with so many color options. And the lightweight cotton makes this dress perfect for the summer heat.
Lauren-Blair: I honestly can't think of any print that's similar to this, so in the realm of novelty prints I love how unique it is. I also play Mahjong on my computer or phone sometimes too, ha! Plus it's so cheerful and has so many colors you can play with!
Sam: I tend to wear this dress a lot with coral, but it has so many colors you can do so many different accessories with it!
Lauren-Blair: The other time I styled it (and caught it in a photograph) was with red and it was mixing prints (which you can see HERE). I'm dying to try navy as intended and some kind of green to bring out the fun green in this print. I believe I've worn it with black too.
You're a photographer! What got you into photography and what are you favorite things to shoot!
Sam: I've been into photography as far as I can remember! As a kid I always had a camera in my hands, and I scrapbooked every vacation. I ended up going to college and getting my degree in photography. My favorite things to shoot are people and fashion. My fiancé and I are both photographers so we share that passion and also shoot weddings on occasion.
You share outfits on Instagram but so far do not have a blog. What inspired you to share outfits and do you think you'll ever start a blog? Why or why not?
Sam: I do not blog at the moment, but I think about it all the time. Maybe when my work schedule calms down. loI. I got into the whole vintage/repro 'scene' about 3 years ago and wanted to connect with other ladies with a similar sense of style. I had moved from a big city to a small town and felt quite alone. I knew there were other quirky ladies out there and wanted to find a way to connect, even if it just meant virtually. I love being able to connect with people that have similar interests!
