Twinsie Tuesday #4: Monica of @simplyretroann in Pinup Girl Clothing's Tiki Jenny Skirt

Another Tuesday, another twin!  I can't believe this is my fourth Twinsie Tuesday post!!  Today I'm featuring Monica from the Instagram handle, @simplyretroann.  Monica is a girl after my own heart because her music tastes totally rock and we have TONS of pieces in common from our closets!  This is a special post because this is my first non-blogger twin!  Lots of stylish women only showcase their outfits on Instagram so I'm happy to add some spotlight to this niche!

We chose this Pinup Girl Clothing Tiki Jenny skirt as our twin piece.  After reading the answers to the questions I was surprised to find that we got the skirt under similar circumstances and I'm wondering if we purchased it during the same sale!!

As always, we picked a central piece, styled our outfits without referencing each other, and here are the results!  Below are more photos and a series of Q&A we both answered and a few questions at the bottom just for Monica!
What was your process for styling this outfit?

Monica: I have Halloween on my mind, so I wanted to do something a little spooky.  I couldn't think of a better way to do that than with black lace and boots.

Lauren-Blair: I've styled this skirt a few ways before, but there are limited colors one can use without clashing/going overboard!  It felt like it had been a while since I wore it with green, so I picked that as my base.  This J Crew floral necklace luckily matched and gave it an extra summer punch to this look!
How frequently do you wear this brand?

Monica: I would say I wear this brand pretty frequently since it was one of the first pinup brands I cam across.

Lauren-Blair: Honestly, it's hit or miss.  I love my PUG pieces but they are a little bit on-the-nose vintage for someone like me who likes classic and timeless fashion and aspires to have her aesthetic be vintage meets modern.  I go through waves though and I find that summer and autumn are easier for me to wear PUG as I can add sandals, spaghetti tops, and bandeaus to make PUG more my own.
How frequently do you wear this skirt?

Monica: Not as often as I should because it is a wonderful print!  But I do make it a point to wear during the summer!

Lauren-Blair: Recently not as much, but this and the Mary Blair Commuters Jenny skirt are probably my most worn Pinup Girl Clothing pieces!  And like Monica said, summer time begs for this skirt to be worn!
What made you want to buy this skirt?

Monica: I bought this because it was a fun print at a discount!  It was during a time when I was starting to build up my pinup collection and only bought clothes that were on sale.  This skirt and the red floral Jenny were both on sale, so I was glad I was able to get them both at a great price!

Lauren-Blair: I was newer to vintage styling and just loved the print.  I was on the fence about Pinup Girl Clothing because of the prices (at the time I was a lot more frugal about purchasing clothes) and I wasn't sure the style was 100% me.  This skirt was put on sale and I couldn't resist giving it a try.  I'm really glad I did because I not only love it, but it's one of the most hunted for pieces from Pinup Girl Clothing!  I'm really lucky my first swing with PUG ended up being such a coveted item I didn't have to track down later!
Have you been able to style it other ways?  Why or why not?

Monica: This skirt has a lot of different colors, so there is a lot of variety when it comes to styling!  But my favorite is with a green top, like my olive colored peasant top or lime green top from Heart of Haute.  I have also worn it with a peach petticoat too for an extra pop of color.

Lauren-Blair: I'm typically really good at mixing prints and adding concert tees to mid-century skirts, but I struggle with this one!  The skirt is kind of neon and has such a summer print that I think a lot of separates/accessories in my closet just don't fit the scheme.  I've matched it with only solids (I think) involving black, the coral pink, and green (like today).  I need to play with the other colors in the skirt more and maybe also do white styling.

Just For Monica: I've noticed you're into music like Depeche Mode and The Cure.  Does the type of music you listen to influence your personal style?

Monica: They are my absolute favorite bands and I would also have to include Oingo Boingo!  I would definitely say that music has a strong influence in my style.  I think it is a big reason why I wear my boots a lot, not just because I can barely stand and walk in heels but it makes me feel ready to rock out.  Although when I'm not in pinup clothes more than likely I'm wearing a band shirt!

I usually only ask one additional question for my twins, like the one above.  However, Monica is my first Instagram fashionista who does not have a blog.  I've decided any future fashionistas without a blog I twin with will also get this bonus question:

You share outfits on Instagram but so far do not have a blog.  What inspired you to share #ootd pictures on Instagram and do you think you'll ever start blogging?  Why or why not?

Monica: I had started my pinup collection before I started my Instagram account and I barely wore the pieces I had because at the time I only thought dressing up was for special occasions.  But I didn't want that to be the case, so I made an account to encourage me to wear it on a more frequent basis and to be a part of the wonderful pinup community.  Once I started my Instagram I felt so welcome and have met so many wonderful ladies!  I only post on my Instagram and sometimes in Facebook groups.  As for a blog, I don't think I would be able to keep it up on a regular basis.  But doing a guest spot once in a while is really fun and I'm so glad I got to take part in this one!!
Here ends another Twinsie Tuesday post!  I hope you've been enjoying these as I have been thoroughly enjoying collaborating with my twins and posting them for you reading pleasure!  To follow Monica on Instagram (and you should) CLICK HERE.  Additionally I'm apart of a giveaway on Instagram (involving $200 PayPal cash and an eyeshadow palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance) so if you want to get in on that click HERE, follow me, and follow the rest of the rules in the photo caption!  Hope you win ;)

  1. YAY Monica is one of my absolute favorite people!! So glad you're featuring some non-bloggers in this series. And I love how your different outfits show the versatility of this print -- tiki goth and summery bright! Also, it's so funny that you both picked this skirt up on sale. I can't believe Monica got the red roses Jenny on sale as well!

Go CUBS!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
