Pulling. Them. Off. I can NEVER not say that when I wear these boots, thanks to How I Met Your Mother! Never in a million years did I think I'd be styling boots for an outfit in AUGUST but we've been having totally wacky weather weather! It's usually boiling lava hot throughout the summer but it's been 75-85 most days with a lot of rain and overcast. Very weird. I even wore these to a music festival in my neighborhood last week because it wasn't particularly balmy!
Anyway, I'm in love with this TOBI Boho Babe Rose & Ivory Embroidery Shift Dress but got it in the beginning of the summer when long sleeves became impractical. Though white is a very easy and good choice to styling this dress, I immediately knew I wanted to try it with my red boots (though I thought the day I'd try it would be in like, September or October, ha). I featured it's white and blue twin this spring HERE if you want to read more about this dress. I was trained to think red and pink clash, but I think that's a weird and outdated style rule. It it were innately true, less floral schemes would have red and pink flowers in it! Because this shift dress is such a pale/rose gold pink I liked the idea of going for a bold look with red boots.
Finding red sunglasses (Forever 21) and monster hoop earrings (Kate Spade) in my closet to style the rest of the outfit was easy. Finding a bag to go with was not! I wanted to wear a bag that would pop, but a lot of ones that matched either had too many other bright colors in it for this particular outfit or had too much pink to make everything washed out. I weirdly don't really have a good red bag, so I know I know what to hunt for next! I finally landed on this Kate Spade circle bag with muted polka dots I got from Poshmark last year and found it to be perfect to go with the whole theme of the dress while still standing out on it's own. How do you guys like to style interesting color schemes?
How's your summer going? Is the weather ideal or is it kind of annoying? I love summer so I'm annoyed at this break in the heatwave and how rainy it is (although when it's dry we have more forrest fires and I'm super allergic to the air when that happens, so I really shouldn't complain). Is there an outfit you're surprised you got to wear this summer??
