You may have already been able to deduce that I have a bit of a thing for dinosaurs. From owning (at least) two dinosaur printed dresses from Retrolicious (here and here) and having two Kate Spade dinosaur purses, and having tons of other dinosaur items related to accessorizing...this is not new information!! Anyway, while wearing one of my dinosaur purses to the supermarket, the cashier noticed it and informed me that there were "baby dinosaurs" at the Denver Zoo. Knowing there was no way in hell that could possibly be correct, I asked her to repeat what she said, which again was, "There's baby dinosaurs at the zoo". Trying to be as polite as possible, I asked how that could be. She told me she wasn't sure but it's what a co-worker had told her.
Not even a little bit believing this, I Googled it to see what was actually going on. I found that the Denver Zoo was hosting an after-hours exhibit on Saturday evenings involving animatronic dinosaurs throughout the park. Ohhhhh. So I grabbed a willing participant and off to the zoo on a Saturday night we went! Because I'm wearing a fun outfit in the photos I got and I've been slow with getting outfit photos for the blog due to illness and weather, I thought I'd share this in a quirky Denver meets lifestyle post!
If you scroll through the next few videos you will see that the dinosaurs moved, sprayed water, and did all kinds of (limited) cool things. (Click to play and have the image come up.)
I got to pose next to all kinds of fun dinosaurs, and even introduce a big scary triceratops to his "son", my triceratops Kate Spade purse! Oh, how I amuse myself!
For those who are curious about the outfit, I opted to wear my new(er) shirt with a dinosaur on it. The font, which you can not make out because I wasn't planning on making an outfit post out of this and failed to get a close-up, says, "She's beauty and she's grace. She'll probably eat your face." Obviously, I could not resist this shirt! This beautiful skirt is a literal oldie but goodie, in that it's vintage and I've had it for 2-3 years now. (Read more about the skirt HERE!) I liked how the color scheme of the shirt played against the novelty print of the skirt, so I decided to wear them together. Obviously I had to wear one of my Kate Spade novelty dinosaur bags, because duh. And the purple triceratops matched perfectly! To round out the outfit I have my purple Steve Madden sunglasses that I really didn't need by the time we made it to the zoo, my lavender Members Only jacket in case it got chillier at night, and my teal Old Navy flips flops. Originally I was going to wear wedges, but I kind of walked out the door in a rush and just threw on these flip flops. That was probably more practical for the zoo!
Being that this was all at the zoo, REAL and currently alive/non-extinct animals were everywhere. I've only been to the zoo once prior to this night, and I was. not. impressed. All of the animals were sleeping, minus a gorilla eating a piece of (presumably) his own poop. So, to say I didn't love my first Denver Zoo outing is an understatement. This zoo visit was already better because of the dinosaurs, but also because way more animals were out and about! It was dusk and getting darker as all of these photos were taken, but here are a few shots I got!
You all know I also love elephants, so it was exciting to get to see elephants mere feet from me! (Click the screen to play.)
I also uploaded another Boomerang to Instagram, and you can check it out here!
I'm also a pretty big fan of flamingos, so to see so many was also pretty cool!! I wish I got more pictures, but like I said, this was a night time event and we got there a little bit before 8PM as the sun was setting.
This was another big hit on my Instagram, as I joked I got a new pet ;) I'm REALLY getting into Boomerang so definitely expect to see more of those short videos on my Insta! Have you guys ever gotten to do fun stuff like see fake dinosaurs? What weird exhibits have come to your town?
