Bernie Dexter Lauren Dress Review!

Happy Memorial Day, folks!  If you are a veteran and are reading this, thank-you for your service!  And if you have lost a loved one in a war, I'm so very sorry.  And if you're an international reader, today is a holiday here in the states (if you haven't already deduced that).

Lauren Dress Review: I finally got my hands on a Bernie Dexter Lauren dress!  You'd think with the first part of my name being Lauren that I would have flocked to get one sooner, but I'm not THAT egotistical ha!  The Lauren dress is a very similar to the style of the Kelly dress (see my review on that style HERE) as well as the new Bernie style, the Drive in Dress.  (Someone help me on that one, as I can't tell a difference at all between the Drive in and the Kelly...)

At first glance the Lauren looks nearly identical too, but there are a few differences.  For one, there is an attached waist belt.  Those aren't typically my jam (I do make exceptions from time to time) and in this case I actually do like the waist belt.  It just goes with the dress so well, or at least it does with the Fall For You print it comes in.  The other main difference is the collar; the collar is a lot larger and an almost winged shape.  Obviously I tried on this dress when I first got it, but I paid more attention to it when I styled it the other day when I wore it for the first time.  I'm not sure how I feel about the collar.  It's subtle because the print is so loud, but in the mirror I kept focusing on it's flaps and wasn't super thrilled with it.  (This is just a personal preference.)

I don't know if it's just this print or if this is across the board for all Laurens, but I feel like the Lauren runs kind of large (I'm wearing XS for measure).  I know, I've been kind of the worst with gaging sizing since last fall when my health dipped and I lost all of the healthy weight I spent two years gaining back.  I'm still on the smaller side, but I'm not as small as I was a few months back so I'm assuming the Lauren must run large and it's not just me.  (Other recent Bernies I've acquired fit normally).  This isn't a huge deterrent in my case as I don't think it's super noticeable with the belt and how vibrant the print is (in real life the print is to die for!) I doubt anyone would be paying attention to it being ever-so-slighlty baggy.  But for the those who are between sizes and wanted to know the fit in general, I'm of the belief that it runs manageably large.

The bottom line is that I like the dress, but I prefer the Kelly.  And, I'm still dying to get the sleeveless version of these dresses in the Mari.  So I recommend this dress, but unless a print came out that I was in love it and it ONLY came out in the Lauren, I'm not sure I'd be a repeat offender otherwise.

Style Details: It appears this Lauren is sold out, but you can find this print in the Drive in Style as well as the Ebury.  My glasses are from a flea market, my earrings and purse are Kate Spade, my brooch is a scene from My Girl thanks for Atomic Lucite, and my shoes are oldies but goodies from ModCloth.
The Joy of Trying to Include Your Pets on Your Blog... My dogs think I'm insane.  I do yoga daily in my living room and they stare at me in complete bewilderment from the couch, which is an upgrade from when my Border Collie thought me moving into downward dog was an invitation to try to play with me.  When I do photoshoots they don't understand why I move "our" patio furniture and don't let them come out with me.  Though shooting with dogs is often a (cute) train wreck, I never seem to learn and try to include them from time to time despite never getting picture perfect shots.  This is the best I could get with my beagle and me, who seemed insistent that I let her hang with me on the patio when I wanted to do a details shot.  I kept a treat hidden that she knew about (hence she's pawing me) because the camera bewilders her and being 12(!) years old she photographs looking like a grumpy beagle who hates life.  Ha, so pro tip: have treats for dogs who look sad in their old age when photographing them!

Summer Announcements:  Thanks so much for all of those who have been checking out my new blog, Blair Uncensored!  I'm very excited with the numbers so far (knock on wood) so thank-you so much!  For the time being I will be posting on both blogs 3x a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) and in 2-4 weeks I will kick back up the postings here on Grace Rock Kelly Roll to 4-5x a week.  I just need some time to experiment with maintaining two consistent projects and the hassles of the promoting all of it on social media without over saturating my follower's feeds, ha!  My comedy project, Just Shair, has been on hiatus for a minute but we're cooking up some pretty fun new stuff (along with a new direction involving characters...!) so stay tuned for new content at some point this summer!  I'm also going to be bringing back my book series to this blog this summer (though it may "fit" a little better on Blair Uncensored, I think it's important to have the visual of well dressed women also being well read so that's going to stay on here) and am hopefully going to be bringing some new lifestyle segments here to Grace Rock Kelly Roll.  Happy unofficial start of summer and please stay safe!!

  2. Such a gorgeous dress on you! I love the print and the style. It's very much like a Kelly style - this Bernie Dress style is my favorite to wear! :)

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
