Hey all! Apologies for my absence! As I mentioned in my last post, I haven't been feeling super great lately. Not all days are bad, but I'm always playing catch-up so it's been a weird March for me, in general and in regards to blog life. That said, I have to change out of my pajamas most days and I have a fun new apartment that's (almost) fully set up that I'm totally in love with. So despite my blogging absence, I have been alive and well on Instagram most days (please follow me HERE if you don't already). And here are some of the outfits from the past week that never made it to the blog...until now!
I love elephants and I love wearing the color yellow, so when I saw this Festive Frondaescence A Line Dress from ModCloth, I knew I had to have it. Want to hear about how I'm an idiot?! Of course you do! When I pulled this dress out of the box, I thought the trim was black. I thought that was odd because I could have sworn the online photos made it look brown, but I shrugged it off and put on a black windowpane cardigan from Target. As the day went on I realized I was an idiot and that it really was chocolate brown, like I originally thought it was! Whoops! I doubt anyone notices and in this photo you can't really see the mis-match. I blame chronic headaches inducing temporary color blindness?! IDK what happened, but I'm happy to share any story that involves me having blonde moments! (Elephant brooch is from Erstwilder, and sadly it's discontinued).
I want to continue to do a series of desk photos (there's a few below) because I love my new desk space! I work from home so I decided to upgrade my work furniture and utilize the empty space in from of my floor to ceiling windows that overlook my new pool. OBVIOUSLY I went with fun colors and a mid-century feel because, duh, this is me we're talking about!
This dress is an oldie but goodie from Bernie Dexter (originally from ModCloth, before they parted ways with each other). I love quirky novelty prints but this slightly more subtle chrysanthemum print is actually one of my all-time favorites. I took a desk photo in the afternoon and was able to get an artsy selfie at Denver Museum of Contemporary Art in front of a mirror on the second or third floor that overlooked the city streets later in the day. (My comedy partner Shannon and I were there for Beavis and Butthead Bingo there, naturally).
Funny story: I wore this Trashy Diva Forget Me Not Floral skirt on the windiest day in Denver, and then accidentally posed next to my not quite-yet-hung print by Bara Prasilova, which basically captures what I looked like all. day. LONG. Wearing a skirt on a windy day is never advised, but I had been dying to wear this J Crew Factory zebra sweater with this floral number to highlight the blue in it and this winter was too hot for sweaters most days! Fearing that trend would continue into spring, I took my chances!!
This was a super casual day for me. Actually, any day I wear a colorful vintage 1970s maxi dress (especially one with space invaders on it), I tend to call it "done" and don't proceed to put on fancy hair/make-up and accessories. I did spice it up a little though with my Designosaur alligator necklace at the last second though! Otherwise, my only extra accessory would be my beagle "puppy" (she's almost 12, yikes!!) having a grand old time on my couch ;)
I opted to wear red on International Women's Day since I wasn't doing much to celebrate otherwise. I haven't worn my Bernie Dexter dog print dress in forever (check out the new Vera dress in this fabric!!), and since it's red it felt like a good day to wear it again. I was super inspired by a thread in the Facebook Bernie Dexter Collective group, where some lovely ladies paired their Chelsea dresses (which is the cut I'm wearing) over blouses. Before it gets too hot to do this regularly, I had to at least try this once! So I pulled my grey Heart of Haute Estelle Blouse and paired it under the dress. I'm pretty happy with how it came out! My earrings are from Luxulite and my Mystery Science Theater 3000 brooch (that I thought I lost!!) is from the amazing Atomic Lucite (I'm such a sucker for their TV brooches).
And finally, this is my outfit from today! I was about to leave to run errands, which is why I have my Kate Spade flamingo purse next to me. (My couch has folded laundry all over it, so it wasn't "photo proof" lol.) This is another 1970s maxi dress paired with my Designosaur alligator necklace. I don't know why, but it seems to go with many of my 70s dresses!! Today was 70 so I wanted to feel summery but not necessary wear a shorter sundress. If you can make out the earrings, I highly recommend them! They're from Kate Spade and are hoops with a (pretty) monster face on them. I received them in the mail late last week and have worn them a few times already, as they are basically my new favorite thing!
How was everyone's week or so? I'm jumping back into blogging in the next day or so; I want to make sure I have a few outfits photographed before diving in again so I can have momentum no matter what. I'm hoping to have this series be somewhat a regular thing, as sometimes not all outfits make the blog and some days I'm not wearing as much make-up, so the IRL vibe is probably a good thing to promote! I've missed everyone! If I'm ever gone for too long on here, my Instagram is always a good spot to find out what's going on too! Hope everyone had a great week! XO
