"Sporting" with Tennis and Baseball

All About the Outfit:  I've been a huge sucker for a) button down dresses and b) sleeveless collared dresses lately, so this Emily and Fin Frankie dress in tennis rackets mega caught my attention.  I have to admit that I gave Emily and Fin a chance about a year or so ago, and initially had a "meh" experience.  Their prints are phenomenal so naturally this brand has been on my radar.  I bought one of their dresses from ModCloth that they named the "Too Much Fun" style and didn't love the style on me and found the button on the back difficult to fasten.  So I figured that brand was not for me.

Flash forward to recent months and I've fallen in love with several of Emily and Fin's prints and began to consider trying them again.  I now have three items from them that I absolutely LOVE, so I'm now an official convert!  I think it was just the style of the first dress that I didn't care for.  I can really foresee myself wearing most of their button down dresses in the future!!

The fit is a little interesting however, as I'm wearing a UK size 6 here and got a UK size 8 in a different dress/style (XXS and XS for US sizes, respectively).  I remember wanting an Emily and Fin dress from ModCloth 4 years ago that had only size XXS left in stock.  I called them and talked to a stylist and she said for my 25/26 inch waist it would be way too tight, so I passed.  Granted, ModCloth sometimes orders things differently to accommodate different sizes, so maybe a different fit model is used.  (I swear Folter/Retrolicious dresses fit me WAY better if I purchase via ModCloth, for instance).  But the size 6/XXS dress that I'm wearing in this post borderline runs large (but not to the point where I can't wear it).  I know I've expressed over the past few months that I'm under my natural weight, but I think it would either fit like a glove or still be slightly roomy if I tried this on six months ago.  My size 8/XS dress (semi-obviously) also feels large but it also feels similar to the size 6/XXS with very little difference.

I'm not complaining!  Pinup and vintage inspired dresses are notoriously kind of a tight and occasionally uncomfortable fit, so relaxed is fine (it's why we have belts, after all!).  And if nothing else the washer and dryer may tighten things up.  I just wanted to mention my experience as I was given a "hard no" on the XXS size a few years back by a stylist and I feel like that may have been false.  And seriously...out of all of the new-to-me brands that I've been trying to branch out with other the past few months, I can see Emily and Fin becoming a new staple and favorite in my wardrobe...hands down!

Style Details:  I know it's only February 1st but I took these on a 60+ degree day here and didn't feel like being "seasonally appropriate" in a cardigan or jacket.  I'M READY FOR SPRING!  Ha.  And I wanted to show the fit and full style of the dress, as that is a bummer about reviewing dresses in winter as you tend to be layered.  I got these Keds baseball shoes from ModCloth over Black Friday and decided to wear them with the tennis dress.  Baseball and tennis are my favorite sports and the only two I played where I (pun intended) didn't totally suck balls out (not counting the one year of cross country before I developed asthma...ha).  So I decided to go for a "sporting" look, which is a silly phrase my Just Shair partner and I came up with when we went to the same Krav Maga class and saw each other in athletic gear for the first time (and subsequently planned our Olympic comedy specials).  Because there's a subtle red in the shoes, I opted to outline the rest of the outfit with reds.  I feel red and green can actually be very springy, even though more look at this color duo as Christmas-y!  Ha.  And I added some yellow to drive home the point that this is a spring out!!
