Renaissance Barbie

All About the Outfit: Ladies and gentlemen, this is one of my holy grail outfits!  The dress is by Bernie Dexter and it's called the Manor Print (in cream) and it's in the Paris style.  I've wanted it for well over a year and I finally got my hands on it over Black Friday from Pinup Girl Clothing.  It wasn't sold in too many places and finding it on sale was even more impossible!

These awesome shoes are by Jeffrey Campbell and I scored them a year ago via eBay.  For those who do not know, these Barbie shoes were something of a fan favorite amongst Jeffrey Campbell enthusiasts and were quite pricey!  Soon they were sold out, and somehow I got bonkers lucky when I got them for under $100 last year when nobody failed to bid on them but me.  I actually wore them to my most recent birthday and one of my friends sarcastically said, "Oh wow...nobody else but you bid on them, how weird."  Ha.  My friends are little weirdos like I am, but I am the most eccentrically dressed for sure.  Love them or hate them, these bad boys get a reaction!

ARE THOSE SHOES EVEN COMFORTABLE?  HOW DO YOU WALK IN THEM?! Because I get these asked this a lot when I wear the shoes in real life, I need to address this!  Yes, they are tall.  I'm 6 foot tall or more when I wear them (which is frankly the height I believe I should have been!!!) which is why I think it garners questions.  I double and triple promise to finally do a shoe FAQ and tutorial in 2017, but for now: height does not necessary equal an uncomfortable shoe!  The comfort of a shoe depends on support, if the fabric rips apart your heels and gives you blisters, and how much pressure is applied on your foot while standing in them.  These shoes are really not that bad at all.  I find them to be totally practical in regards to comfort and walking.  I'm a klutz, so if I fall I fall, but when I fall it's never my shoes (these or others) as I'm often ironically in flats when I fall and/or Denver has the crappiest sidewalks known to life and it's easy to stumble over the uneven slabs of concrete.  These Jeffrey Campbells look intimidating but I promise you they are not.

So until I do a more thorough shoe post, if you are a novice to wearing heels START. WITH. WEDGES!!!! Your feet will be in a similar position as to being in flats and therefore once the height stops intimidating your balance it will be easier to walk normally in heels AND your feet won't be killing you as much either.  Until next time... ;)

Style Details: This is obviously a very feminine print, but since there is a black trim I wanted to edge it out a bit.  These Barbie wedges are a perfect color match and add a totally different dimension to wearing this dress.  The faux leather jacker that I've had for YEARS from TJ Maxx (and it's slowly falling apart 😭) was not only a likely choice to continue to match while simultaneously edge out the look, but a practical one as layering--especially while outdoors--is entirely necessary this time of year.

The day I took these photos it was warmer out, but on Thanksgiving I wore this exact outfit (with tights because it was cold) out to dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant (Africana for any locals who are interested, as I HIGHLY recommend it) and then to one of my favorite bars, Sputnik.  If you're scratching your head, no, I haven't done a "normal" Thanksgiving in over a decade (my family quit holidays).  Occasionally I get lopped into other Thanksgiving traditions, but I prefer things this way as holidays seem to stress everyone out.  And hey, for the first time since 2006 I even saw my immediate family over brunch that morning so in my world that was abnormal!  To each their own, right?

This dress is currently being sold at Bernie Dexter and Pinup Girl Clothing.  Any Bernie fans can comment in the comment section if I missed somewhere!  A new blue variation of this print was recently released on the Bernie Dexter site, so if you're at all tempted you should snatch it up as it's a limited release.  I own a different version of the blue print of this, the Sharon dress, which I reviewed in the spring HERE!

Unfortunately the shoes and jacket are sold out, but sometimes on eBay these Jeffrey Campbell Barbie shoes pop up, as well as in other color ways.  If you want them, I genuinely hope you get lucky one day and find them!!
I hope everyone is having a delightful week!  I'm super excited to be finally back into the full swing of blogging!  I can't say how much I've missed this!  Do you guys ever edge out feminine dresses or add an extra level of quirk to an outfit, a la Barbie head shoes?  Have a terrific Tuesday, friends!

  1. How cool is this outfit!? I love how you've combined both vintage and edgy styles into this look with the vintage dress and edgier jacket and shoes, which are giving me some major Lady Gaga vibes, haha! Such a fun pairing, beauty! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have the best week ahead!

  2. Oh my gosh! Those shoes are amazing! I'm both terrified and enchanted by them, haha. They do look like they'd be difficult to walk in...but I know what you mean, height doesn't always equal uncomfortable and wedges are definitely the best to start with! And your dress is incredible! So pretty!

  3. Oh my god those shoes are totally awesome - no way I could wear them though and pull them off like you have in these photos!
Love this dress too, such a beautiful print! I actually own the same dress myself! :)

  4. Sounds like this is a dream dress and shoes for you. So glad you got them both! Love the outfit!

  6. Looooved this outfit, honestly! I love different shows, show stoppers, and this pair is just impressive! Your friend should give it a try, before saying "no one bids on them, only you do" - I simply loved them - and yes, wedges are comfortable! And the Bernie dress, how beautiful, such a gorgeous print! Loved the jacket as well! I don't have these holidays traditions either, a bit yes, done my way, and yes, this time of the year can be very stressful. Glad you saw your family! Hope you have a very nice day!

  7. Wow, your shoes are one of the most unique shoes I've seen in my whole life, really! ;D What about comfort of wearing shoes and high of heels I totally agree with your opinion - many times I felt more comfortable in high heels than in flats.

  8. Ohmygosh! Those shoes. They totally freak me out but they're so fun. You know how to pull them out haha x Also, the print on your dress is beautiful! x

  9. Oh my I LOVE those shoes!! Too cool! Love! As I do your looks, you have great fun style. And I work for Michigan Avenue magazine and was so rooting for The Cubs so glad they won!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
