Summer Concert Outfits Brainstorm!

If you were with me last year, you know music and going to shows is a HUGE part of my life.  I slacked off big time the past six months, as there were at least a half a dozen shows I wanted to go to but didn't for various reasons.  Looking to fix that ASAP!!  Since summer is on the horizon and even casual music fans are more likely to go to shows over the summer, I thought I'd both wax nostalgically and logically about what I wore last year and help you out with some pointers and such.  Dressing for concerts can be such an ordeal, so let's break it down together!

Maxi dresses:
This outfit was worn at Underground Music Showcase day 2.  You can read all about the outfit details and concert HERE.

This Folter dress was worn to the Foo Fighters.  All about this outfit HERE.
Any outdoor shows, at night, with a hint of rain, wind, or general chilliness are the shows that I'd recommend wearing maxi dresses to.  Of course pants work as well, but in my experience in the event of rain pants are more miserable to wear when you're sopping wet because they cling to you and are harder to get off upon getting home.  Plus if it's summer, chances are it's a touch warmer before the weather may turn or before nightfall, so dresses keep things cooler while staying summery too.  Maxi dress/skirts are genuinely a win/win for all weather contingencies!

Consider strapless:

Tan lines?  Of course wear sunblock when outdoors, but sometimes you get lines even then.  If you're going to be outside at festivals or neighborhood block parties, consider a bandeau, tube top, or  another strapless number to eliminate farmer's tans or wife beater tans.  (Be especially mindful of this if you're getting married in the coming months or are going to be in a wedding with dresses that will emphasize bad tan lines!!!)

Sundresses

This jurassic Retrolicious dress went with me to Jurassic 5.  Read about it HERE

I almost feel as those this portion of my blog post should be sponsored by Retrolicious/Folter!!!  They were easily my most worn concert attires, in part because the prints are so fun and rock and roll naturally, and because they're shorter with lighter fabrics making them perfect for summer evening events.  But all fun prints and above the knee dresses are perfect for summer concerts, so definitely take inventory of your closet now while scoping out what to wear to future clothes...or indulge in something fun from your wishlist!

For when it's raining but you're indoors...
This Voodoo Vixen number saw Geto Boys with me.  Read all about it HERE.
This bullet point isn't talked about enough!!  This was a night where tornado warnings were going off and really bad flash flooding occurred.  Going to an outdoor show in bad weather is hard enough, but what to do when you're going to have to walk from you car while being exposed to the elements while en route to an indoor and sweaty theater??  I wore all black as to not have a "girls gone wild" situation should I get rained on, and wore minimal make up (just foundation) so it wouldn't smudge and put my hair in braids to eliminate frizzing or creative drying (my hair genuinely doesn't know if it's straight or curly, so different sections take different sides if left to it's own devices).

Final thoughts:
  • Wear flats.  Preferably with ankle support.  But if you're a rebel like me and wear heels sometimes to shows, wear shoes that you know from experience treat your feet well.  (Hot tip: wedges tend to be better than pumps).
  • Wear handbags that fit your needs.  Simple and small over the shoulder bags are best, but if you're getting a tee shirt, need to store a cardigan, or are going to be storing some of your friend's goods, bigger isn't bad if it's not too big.
  • Keep your style and keep it comfortable.  You're not the musician on stage, so you don't need to dress the part in an elaborate getup.  Have fun, but keep it relatively simple.

I've recently added two pages to this blog, one that catalogues posts named after songs and another that catalogues all of the concert stories.  Click the links on to see for yourself!  Happy Friday!

  17. Fabulous looks! I can count on one hand the number of concerts I've been to in my lifetime (and that despite endlessly adoring music), so I don't have any cool looks like to share myself. Hopefully one day! Your rainbow hued dress in particular took my breath away. I'm the biggest fan of rainbow-y garments. Thank you for sharing these awesome outfits with us.

Go CUBS!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
