- Actually, I have none this week! A new Just Shair video is coming this week though, and given that we have a few others filmed this should be a weekly thing from here on out. (It was always supposed to be; illness and life events messed up our start a bit). Sometime over the next month you should be able to see me completely loose my sh*t on camera; I’m the hardest person in the world to crack up and for 10 minutes of filming I could barely get some words out I was laughing so hard. Shannon was somewhat stunned and said she had never seen me like this, which is probably true. It’s been 3+(?) years since I had a laughing fit I couldn’t stop (seriously, I’m a hard crack-up). I believe we’re editing this portion for a bonus video, because who doesn’t like to watch people laugh on camera when they’re trying to be serious and lose their minds. I’m SHAIRING all of this because it was awesome to be reminded of how fun it is to not be able to stop laughing. Consider that today's motivation...do something that'll make you laugh! And, stay tuned… :)
All About the Outfit
This is admittedly one of the more vintage looks I’ve ever put together! Yes, I like vintage but usually not every piece all at once! And, rarely do I go to the 1940s for style inspiration! This skirt is an oldie from Trashy Diva and I realized it matched one of my ModCloth South Florida Spree Top (this one is called "Sassy Girl"). I’ve been slowly but surely stocking up on my printed tops, in part because I love novelty prints AND mixing prints with my printed skirts, but also because they’re nice for my solid bottoms too. I'm becoming slightly obsessed with ModCloth's South Florida Spree Tops and am kicking myself for not getting into them earlier! I accidentally laid these two pieces next to each other last week and realized it'd be a fun mixed print with the same colors, so I wore it ASAP.
Speaking of mixing prints, I feel like I didn’t do that for around 6 months! Recently I’ve been back into it (see here) and I’m excited to be back at this game.
Style Details and Thoughts:
Brooch- Deer Arrow (Why not have an old school record player brooch like this with a 40s inspired outfit?)
Skirt- Trashy Diva (discontinued print)
Shoes- B.A.I.T. via Pinup Girl Clothing (I like the idea of B.A.I.T. but I own two pairs and the jury is still out with me. Specifically about these shoes, I love saddles shoes but these are a little stiff even after wearing them some so I have yet to fall in complete love.)
Since this is largely a 40s look, I decided to showcase a lesser known love of mine: swing music. “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If it Ain’t Got that Swing)” is one of the more famous songs from that era (and borderline that main song to not-super-remembered movie Swing Kids). There’s many versions of this song, but I chose the Duke Ellington version because I believe that is the first recording of this song I heard.
