Toast of the Town

Monday Announcements:

  • In case you missed it, I was on Miss Milla Cherry's blog this weekend in an interview feature!  Definitely please check it out!
  • A Just Shair video is all edited and will be coming out later this week!  Click the link or follow any other social media (all other forms are @just_shair) to stay up to date, otherwise I'll post the video on the next Monday announcements!

All about this dress:
This is an older Retrolicious dress and is no longer in stock, and unfortunately hasn't been for quite some time.  But how fun is it??  Yellow is one of those colors that I never realized I liked as much as I do until I started blogging.  Having the visual of how much yellow I gravitate towards was enlightening, haha.  I think it officially falls just behind purple/green for me as a favorite color.  And hey, I'm in good company because allegedly Grace Kelly's favorite color was yellow!  (My idol, if you're newer to my blog!)

Also, true to form, I love this dress because it has a crazy novelty print: toast in a toaster.  And then there's also polka dots!  And the fact that it's somewhat shorter and sleeveless is making me yearn for it to be mid-summer already!  My only complaint about this dress is that it's my least favorite fit of all my Retrolicious dresses.  Most of their dresses run ever-so-slightly too big, and my rib cage is hella narrow so I'm afraid of a "wardrobe malfunction" when I wear this or the same dress but in a dog print.  The washing machine shrinks slightly, but still!  The risks we take for the clothes we love...haha!
I can never not take a photograph with the back tie of this necklace creeping to the front...

Style details:
Necklace- H&M
Dress- Retrolicious (out of print)
Belt- Target
Brooch- Erstwilder
Shoes- Nine West

I almost went with black pump with this outfit, but instead I chose red ones with a red elephant brooch.  I'm happy with this choice as it's less matchy matchy and makes all of the colors POP more!

Music inspiration!
I know I've mentioned David Bowie and the New York Dolls a few times on the blog, but I'm failing to remember how much (if at all) I've brought up the fact that I'm a not-so-much-closeted hair metal from the eighties fan (which is basically the musical genre offspring of glam rock, like Bowie and the Dolls).  In fact, my first hint that I'm not the die hard music snob that I fancied myself came about 10 years ago when I began proudly telling people that Poison was one of my favorite bands, haha.  (And yes, they still are one of my favorites!)  One of the other big hair metal bands (both in regards to hits and actual hair size) is Motley Crue.  I'm not a "diehard" fan, but I'm a big enough fan that I'm pissed that they're allegedly retired for real and I never got to see them live.  ANYWAY, they have a song called "Toast of the Town" so obviously this had to be this blog's post title.  Get it?

I've recently added two pages to this blog, one that catalogues posts named after songs and another that catalogues all of the concert stories.  Click the links on to see for yourself!  Happy Friday!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
