Sunflowers

Monday Announcements

  • I have comedy details and related social media for you!!!!!!  But first, lemme explain!  As I've been hinting at, I have an online comedy project about to launch.  It's with one of my fave gal pals, Shannon.  She's not only one of the funniest people that I've met, but her and I have so much fun playing off each other that back in the fall we decided we should start a podcast.  Well, we have currently shelved the straight up podcast idea (for now) are to are doing more visual things instead.  To start with, the name of our dynamic duo is an agglomeration of our names, Shannon + Blair= Shair.  So not unlike the singer (::wink::) we call our project, Just Shair!  For the time being on our still being constructed site, we will have videos where we "shair" our sillier thoughts on various topics (St Patrick's day, Pinterest, ways people are spelling their kid's names, etc).  We also will be uploading photos of us doing insane things in public, playing alter ego type personas, and just making our parents mighty proud in general by committing ridiculous stunts to photographic evidence.  We will be officially uploading our first video March 13th and will have a photo segment to follow later in the week.  If you wanna get in early on the fun, both our Twitter and Instagram handles are @just_shair (or click HERE and HERE).  Our Facebook page can be found HERE.  Over the next week or so we'll become more active on there and have updates!   Please and thanks for any follows; you all know how nerve wrecking it can be to put yourself out here so I'll appreciate any and all follows!  XO
Grocery shopping with my comedy partner!

Back to the style post...this sunflower skirt by Hell Bunny was one of my first ever vintage repo purchases and it's one of the biggest staples in my closet.  Something about blue and yellow go with everything, right??  This time around I decided to pair it with a denim button down for a complimentary blue on blue look.  Not unlike yesterday's look, this feels like a good "winter meets spring" combination.  I don't know about where you guys are, but Denver is officially in the zone where it's between 50-70 degrees out unless it snows so my mind is officially in spring mode.  I got kind of excited upon the realization over the past week that I really don't "need" to photograph anymore winter outfits, at least from a keeping warm standpoint!

Outfit details: The top is Old Navy, the brooch is Erstwilder via DNJ Retro, the skirt is Hell Bunny (I believe it's discontinued...sorry!), and the shoes are Nine West.

Motivational and positivity time: The best partnerships effortlessly flow.  I think this applies to all things business, platonic, and romantic.  My comedy partner Shannon and I were initially thinking of only announcing social media this month (and two weeks from now at that) and releasing our content "sometime in April...maybe May."  But we work so well together that after an 8 hour project day this weekend following prep work done the past few months, we realized we were ready to launch.  I'm semi-starting to get stressed about going public, because when you put yourself out there it's just so damn vulnerable, but I'm mostly blocking out those fears.  Other than that, I'm really not stressed about Just Shair!  The work kind of does itself, and I give a lot of that credit to both Shannon and my chemistry, but I think it's also a testament to what a solid person she is.   I'm on this soap box because I've learned the hard way more times than I can count about various forms of relationships not working out because things were forced.  This is one of the first times where not only is this coming easily to me, but there are tangible results.  I now can recommend with some authority to not stress about the, well, stressful relationships and only focus on the people that gel in your life.  I'm happy to have unearthed this and I hope you already are or can be too ASAP!

Music time!  I may talk a BIG game about loving all things punk, metal, and indie...but I have this 90s weakness y'all!  It's the band Everclear!!!  I was OB-SESSED with them in high school.  Hell, my high school yearbook quote was, "You say there is no perfect place, I say I know this is true.  I'm just learning how to smile, that's not easy to do" which is off their song "Learning How to Smile."  Because high school blows, I eventually had to detox from all the stuff I loved for many years and as of lately I've been circling back around to some former loves.  I went on a big Everclear revival kick last fall and I still totally love them.  Sorry not sorry...and trust me, I know from firsthand experience that they kind of suck live, so I get what admitting to loving them can do to my rep, haha!  But I love them so, including this track of theirs, "Sunflowers".  Any guesses why I named this post after that song?? ;-P

I've recently added two pages to this blog, one that catalogues posts named after songs and another that catalogues all of the concert stories.  Click the links on to see for yourself!  Happy Friday!

  7. This is going to be awesome and I'm super excited to see what you two have been up to! The teaser photos you've posted are pretty great :). Also, I'm super into this chambray shirt! I have a hard time finding button-up shirts that look good on me and fit well, and chambray is sort of the holy grail of Button-ups I Need.

  12. Congrats on your comedy show! It sounds like it will be a lot of fun! I love your dog skirt too by the way! Too cute. Love seeing these spring outfits. Where I am it's also in the 50-70 range. For a while it was feeling like spring all the time, 65-70 but recently took a turn for the cooler weather which makes me have the opposite reaction as you... for me I want to throw on as many winter worthy outfits as possible before the cold weather turns for good. Not that I like the cold by any means but just because it might be a while before I get to winter up my wear again. <3 Good luck with the launch of your show! It sounds like it's going to be fantastic!

  13. Your style is so refreshing! All too often retro styled ladies end up wearing the same thing and following the same trends - yours is so unique <3

  14. Oooo that brooch is super damn cute especially paired with the sunflower dress!!! Just Shair is amazing and it is so cool to see your personality on camera!!! So proud of you both so horary and big congrats for joining the Youtube world Lauren!!! :D

I totally agree when it comes to relationships of any kind with people, it makes it super awkward when it just doesn't flow. Although I do find in some cases (purely cause I'm a social noob) it can take me quiet a bit to get to know someone before it flows really amazingly other times it just clearly doesn't.
