Hong Kong Garden

It's official: Trashy Diva has won me over!  For those who don't know the brand, they're a vintage repo brand that makes high quality pieces ranging from fun novelty prints to beautiful floral ones.  I own a few skirts from them, but I had yet to be officially won over by them.  Other bloggers and fashionistas would rave and rave about Trashy Diva, and while I was a fan, they weren't necessarily my favorite either.

Now I get it!  I took advantage of their sale on sale (50% off already marked down items...which is basically the only way I own any of their stuff as it's kind of pricey) and for the first time ever got some dresses from them.  Ordering them made me nervous.  In part I'm such a skirt queen because I love to style things differently each time I wear something and skirts make that easier (plus skirts tend to be cheaper than dresses, duh).  But skirts are also easier to figure out.  All you mostly need to know is the waist measurements and voila.  That said, the prints I liked from Trashy Diva's sale didn't come in skirts I liked, so I took a chance on dresses.  Now I'm not sure I'll ever own a Trashy Diva skirt again, minus one of my unicorns centaurs (I'm sorry...I don't like how everyone in vintage world calls their missed out clothing items "unicorns".  I'm choosing to be difficult and I call them centaurs) that is the French Quarter skirt because it's arguably one of the prettiest pieces of clothing ever made!  (If you have a lead on that skirt in likely size 4 or 6...message me PLEASE!)

It's funny because my favorite vintage repo designer, Bernie Dexter, has me on the dress train too.  I own two of her skirts and tens of her dresses.  Granted, she makes more dresses than skirts but I genuinely just love the dresses more.  When I got my Trashy Diva package, I tried on this Chinese Opera dress and was tempted to do the Dumb and Dumber orange and blue tuxedo tap dance.  Some dresses are just made to fit you right, and when you find them it's a beautiful experience.  I got another dress from them in a totally different style that I'll share with you all closer to summer, and I had trouble taking it off because I loved it so much.

I took off my cardigan for a few shots to give a full feel of the dress.  I'd say "you're welcome", but it was fairly warm out so it was no big deal ;)

Style details: A link to this print and all other styles it comes in, Chinese Opera, that's still currently on sale (though not as reduced as I got it, as 50% off sale sadly ended two weeks ago) can be found here.  My glasses are Forever 21, the hair flower is Unique Vintage, my earrings are Old Navy, the cardigan is J Crew Factory, the brooch is Erstwilder and the my shoes are Nine West.

Since this post was a little bit longer than most, I'll save the motivational stuff for tomorrow's post!  XO

Music:  This print is full of costume designs of Chinese operas.  From afar it looks like a floral print. Since Hong Kong is within the confines of China and the dress looks floral, I chose "Hong Kong Garden" by Siouxsie and the Banshees.  It's a pseudo stretch, but a fun play on print one at that.   Plus, what's not to like about this song?!  If you haven't heard it before you're about to fall in love!

I've recently added two pages to this blog, one that catalogues posts named after songs and another that catalogues all of the concert stories.  Click the links on to see for yourself!  Happy Friday!
