Blue Flower

Behind the dress: Here is another more spring/summer look that I decided needed to have some form of a winter take on it.  As you may recall, I don't have storage so my floral and beach prints stay out basically all year and sometimes I decide to rock them in the colder months.  This Bernie Dexter floral dress went on SUPER sale a little before the holidays and I just couldn't wait any longer to wear it!

Navy is a good trick up the color arsenal's sleeve in regards to winterizing any dress.  Though probably any blue would do, as blue is largely associated with winter.  I think this navy pairing lets the dress stand alone without screaming "I WISH IT WERE SPRING ALREADY!" at the top of it's lungs.  Come the spring pastel cardigans will make it's way to this outfit and over the summer sandals will play with this dress.  But for these technical last days of winter and when it's warm enough to not need tights, navy is a good balancing color for warmer looks.

Style details: The cardigan is Banana Republic, the earrings are Old Navy, the brooch is Deer Arrow, the belt is Pinup Girl Clothing, and the shoes are Ralph Lauren via DSW.  As I mentioned the dress is Bernie Dexter, which can be found on sale on her website and occasionally can be found on eBay for even less (which is where I got this dress).

Positivity/motivational: Whenever I'm annoyed at a friend, family member, or loved one in general because they're taking too long to call or email me back over something, I try to take inventory of my own behavior.  Is there anyone I owe a phone call to?  A text?  An email?  I think it's so easy to get mad when someone is ignoring us, but rarely do we recognize that kind of behavior within ourselves.  So whenever I'm feeling my fingers taping against a table in a waterfall fashion waiting to freakin' finally hear back from someone, I look through my phone and make good on any delays I've made as I know I'm guilty of being spacey about communicating from time to time.  I don't believe in karma, but I do believe in treating people how you want to be treated so it's a good little tactic I use to make sure I'm in line with doing just that.  Anyone else have suggestions on how they stay true to who they want to be in execution instead of just in theory?  I'd love to hear it!

Song inspired blog post title: "Blue Flower" was the name I wanted the name of this post to be.  I don't know, I just had it in my head that that'd be a great fit with the blue motif over the floral.  I have a list of songs I like that I thought will make good blog post titles, but all of the ones involving flowers were either too bright for a winter post or too dark for this overall look.  So I just typed in "Blue Flower" into Spotify and saw a Mazzy Star song that was just that.  I don't know a ton about them, as like most people I only truly know "Fade into You."  I also knew some guest vocals from some Jesus and Mary Chain songs, as I'm a die hard fan of theirs.  But I gave this song a listen and I really like it!  It's catchy and softly melodic all at once.  I may have to get their actual albums a fair listen sooner than later...  Hope you enjoy!

I've recently added two pages to this blog, one that catalogues posts named after songs and another that catalogues all of the concert stories.  Click the links on to see for yourself!  Happy Friday!

  3. I always love a good floral print and you look fresh as a daisy in this one! The background is pretty darn neat too. I think rockin some floral and color in the winter is the best. It brightens up a gloomy day and makes soring feel like its getting closer.

  4. These photos are just gorgeous! I love the mosaic backdrop -- the navy really pops against it.

I like your plan for staying true to who you want to be. It's so helpful to work out practical plans for making sure your behavior aims toward your personal North Star. I just set a lot of reminders in my phone...

  5. I loved this post! You're so right, sometimes we have to look at ourselves before getting mad at others. My one way of staying true to myself is to hold myself accountable. Why would I get mad at someone for doing the same thing I did? If I don't want them to do it, I won't either.

  21. Navy is a tried and true color and never really hurts to throw on top of pretty much any other color. I think that's a good idea to see what you've maybe fallen behind in before you get annoyed at someone else. Plus they could be waiting for you to say or do something too so you mind as well do your part.
