Story behind the dress: Greetings! I can't believe it's the end of January! While I'm not sad to see winter go, I'm realizing time is ticking on a lot outfit ideas and outfits that I've worn but haven't necessarily been photographed that are more or less only for winter! This dress is from Retrolicious via ModCloth that I got a few months back. It has deer, owls, foxes and trees all over it. It's teal, so that makes me think of winter but all the browns also make it a fall dress too. I'm banking I'll probably be ironic and wear it over the summer at some point, because I'm me.
I almost returned this dress! I love it, but it has a dropped waist that I'm not really used to. While I don't mind pleats, they are not necessarily my favorite. (If anyone has good ironing tips regarding pleats...please lemme know!!) I tried it on a few times before officially deciding, and gosh darn it the print was too amazing to not keep. I wore this dress to a solstice party back in December, but only got a crappy under fluorescent lighting outfit photo with equally cutely dressed Katie. I really liked how I styled it though, so I wanted to recreate it for a blog post (though I spaced on adding earrings)!
Style details: As I mentioned, the dress is Retrolicious via ModCloth It is no longer on ModCloth, but it can be found here at Unique Vintage. The cardigan is Old Navy, the brooch is Deer Arrow, the tights are Target, and the shoes are Nine West.
Because I love you guys, I took off my cardigan on a semi-cold morning to show you the dress in it's entirety. The one downside of being a largely based dress blogger is that jackets and cardigans sometimes cover up the cut of the dress while blogging in the winter. Since this cut is a little different than what I usually rock, I thought it was worth sharing. I'm a size small in pretty much all Retrolicious and sister company Folter dresses, for the record, including this dress.
Motivational: I've always been into volunteering and activism, but I've picked up the pace a lot over the past 6 months or so and it's become a regular part of my life now, as much as anyone other social activity. I'm sharing this with y'all because having that stuff to do regularly and look forward to has helped keep my head on straight as everything else in my life's environment seems to be shifting every few weeks. There are studies that have been done that people's self value and worth goes up when they're apart of some kind of community outreach, and I have found that to be true within myself. Because this has been a powerful thing in my life, I thought it was worth sharing. So if your life ever hits a snag, consider doing something for mankind as it'll help you and the world.
Music! This post, "Wooden Antlers" is based off of a song by the band Milo Greene. It's a short song, but with the Bambis all over this dress it felt too appropriate not to use! I saw Milo Greene over the summer at a music festival after not even knowing them at all and I've been smitten ever since! They're definitely one of the more modern bands that I'm on board with!
