Hey all, thanks for the sweet words on my last post about wanting to try some new things in 2016 on this blog! As promised, there will still be plenty o' style posts, just like this one heading your way! And, I think there may have been a misunderstanding: I'm not taking a break--at all. Just revamping some stuff here and there so that I feel the content is more rewarding and working towards other goals in life. But thank you so much for reading my post and being so encouraging!!
Behind the dress: Once upon a time I wasn't into the kind of novelty prints that had darker images on them. Specifically I wasn't into skull prints and other things insinuating death, in part because I've had enough of that in my own life that I didn't want to wear it too. Sometime over the past year, that has drastically changed. I guess I decided to embrace the darkness that life can be? Both fictitious and realistic. A haunted forrest? Why the hell not? Zombie movie poster prints? I'll take them in each color, please! Monsters in a jail line-up? A thousand times yes!
I got this Folter dress via Unique Vintage during their Black Friday site wide sale because I just HAD to have it. I had wanted it for a while, so I decided to take the plunge. I like that it's a dark shade, but also very colorful as the monsters are red, blue, and purple.
Styling details: Though I intend to jazz this up a bit in the spring in summer with warmer colors, I decided to take advantage of being in winter and wearing darker hues and matching grays for this particular styling. The zebra brooch is from Erstwilder, the necklace is from H&M, the cardigan is Old Navy, the knee socks are Target style, and the shoes are Nine West.
Positivity time: I think this time of year is always so hopeful. It's a fresh start and the possibilities for the year ahead seem endless. That said, it's easy to crash and burn. If you have new year's resolutions or huge goals for this year, remember the Rome wasn't built in a day. Any true change gets built brick by brick. The rest of the year is a long time and you really can't beat yourself for any setbacks as long as you try again. Plus, you're probably more wonderful than you're giving yourself credit for currently, so try to remind yourself of that!
Music inspired blog post: Elvis Presley music lives on, and I have the feeling that will be the case for decades to come. Immediately upon receiving this dress from Unique Vintage I thought of the song "Jailhouse Rock" and knew this had to be the blog post title. While I'm not a "die hard" Elvis fan, I am indeed a fan. "Burning Love" is probably my favorite of his, but "Jailhouse Rock" is certainly hella up there in my Elvis song repertoire.
