Jenny January (or #jennyjanuary on Instagram) is on day 2! If you missed it, the first post featuring this style of skirt is HERE. Follow the hashtag #jennyjanuary and see a bunch of my retro friends on Instagram, or follow me at @laurenblair_donovan if you don't already to see all of the Jenny fun that I'm at least having! I'm trying to have a Jenny skirt post almost every day this week (week days at least) because I feel like I've been heavy on the Bernie Dexter and Retrolicious dresses lately (see the last 15 or so posts, haha) so it's a good excuse to catch up with a different brand. That said, it's kind of been a one thing after the other week so we'll see! Nothing is bad or wrong, just annoying dominos falling down and me needing to pick them up type thing. But I have good news as my allergies are seemingly cured! If you have winter allergies...get a humidifier! Holy hell...it worked overnight for me and for the past two days I've been functioning like a real girl again (minus the whole craziness haha) for the first time in over a month!
But onto the skirt...this burlesque themed skirt was one of my Black Friday purchases. Black Friday kind of bittersweet when you think about it. You get a bunch of stuff you want at a discount, but it's winter so if you're a dress and skirt girl like me some things either get worn right away or they wait in the closet until spring. This skirt had yet to see the light of day until this photo shoot! And don't worry...it was warm and the snow was melting here so I was not freezing ;) Despite it not being worn yet, I love this skirt. When it first hit Pinup Girl Clothing I thought it was cute but wasn't sure about it. I mean, could I pull off a skirt with a lady getting more and more naked in each frame? But I just love the bold colors and how cheeky the print is--literally--so it just grew and grew and grew on me. I'm looking forward to jazzing this up a lot in the summer.
The flower is from Niccoco Creations, the brooch is Poison of Choice, the sweater is J Crew Factory, and the shoes are Nine West. I've been bringing back hair flowers to my styling choices! When I had bangs they were the perfect accessory to look like I did my hair when I didn't really do much at all! For some reason when I grew out my bangs last summer I dropped the ball on hair flowers and somehow didn't know where to place them without the bangs, haha!
My brain is a little fried from this past month, so I'm going to lay off my usual positivity/motivational messages for this week. That said, if all goes my way and more dominos don't keep falling down, I do have a powerful post coming at the end of the week, so stay tuned ;)
Since this skirt features a lady getting naked, I figured why not finally talk about Motley Crue on the blog and call this post "Girls, Girls, Girls" after one of their more famous hits? I love hair metal and all of it's excess, so this is a very appropriate tie in. Since hair metal is so polarizing...what's your take? Fun or not your jam?
