Deep in the Woods
- I'm a lucky girl and get winter allergies (dust and dry air, etc). I've been having headaches and general fatigue lately, so I've been super slow at responding to comments, reading blogs, and all things social media. Apologies! I'm hoping to be back to normal any day now...::fingers crossed::
- Last month I changed my Instagram handle to @laurenblair_donovan. Despite being slow on social media lately, I did change my Twitter handle to @hello_blair. This should be the last change like this. Please follow if you don't already, and if you're already a blogger friend I will absolutely follow you back.
- I meant to do my first book & documentary review, a new series on this blog to expand a little bit outside the realm of just clothes, last weekend. Illness delayed me. I'm aiming for this weekend, but if not it'll be over the next week for sure! (FYI: I'll be covering Don't Know Much About Geography by Kenneth C Davis and the documentary Please Subscribe.
Behind the dress: I'm a sucker for scenery prints. When I saw this Retrolicious dress on Unique Vintage it was no different. And lucky for me, it not only went on sale super quickly, but it also went on 50% off it's clearance price, so I got it for next to nothing. Admittedly when I got it though, I thought I was going to have to sell it (I don't believe you can return an item to UV when it's that marked down). Retrolicious and Folter dresses run a little bit big, but it's typically nothing that a trip to the washing machine and dryer won't fix. But this felt like a sack on me!! I actually laughed when I tried it on because it was so unflattering. That said, I quickly realized that the magical powers that a belt can have may be the solution, so I tried that and voila...I have a dress that fits and is flattering. I wore it out to one of my favorite brunch places the week after I got it and the hostess kept complimenting me on it and asking where it was from, so obviously the belt trick worked and no one was the wiser that I almost had to sell it!
Style details: Are you sick of me in headbands yet, haha? They're apparently my winter go-to head accessory. This one is from Forever 21 (as is the necklace). My brooch is from Deer Arrow (one of my new favorite brooch stores). The jacket is thrifted from a local Buffalo Exchange and is from H&M. I love it! It's SO warm...I'm surprised at how cozy it is actually. And the boots are Madden Girl via DSW.
Positivity time: If you're in the northern hemisphere, you're probably a little bit chilly as it's winter. But on the bright side, the days are (technically) getting longer and within a month or two (depending on where you reside, of course) the worst will be over. This may seem minor, or maybe even wishful thinking, but a girlfriend of mine and I recently nearly high fived over this fact during a brisk walk from the parking garage to our gym the other night. Hang in there, folks! And if you're in the southern hemisphere, well then keep enjoying summer, you lucky ducks ;)
Music o'clock: Tennis is a national act that is originally from Denver. I've been falling deeper in love with them each year, and even got to see them live over the summer. I just love how they're both ethereal and groovy at the same time. Their new album is killer too, PS. "Deep in the Woods" is a song of theres, and given the print on my dress and that I'm in a wooded area, it was a natural choice to name this blog post after this song!
