Peaches

I am SUCH a novelty print girl, that you would think that whenever Pinup Girl Clothing releases a new collection, such as the JuneBugs and Georgia Peaches one, that I would beeline it to the crazy squirrel and birdcage prints.  You're not wrong...I do want those.  But as my crazy printed shoe collection grows, I've been craving more solid color pinup dresses to play off the shoes (ahem, clearly NOT exhibited here.  Way to illustrate that point, Blair, haha).  And, I love green.  So when I saw this dress, I kind of fell in love.  It's such a unique shade of green and I love the pink with green together.  I own nothing like this and when PUG had a Labor Day discount I couldn't help it but pick this dress over the novelty prints.  And I do not regret this!

Styling this dress with pink was an obvious choice.  The second to most recent Kate Spade Surprise Sale I picked up this floral shoulder bag for next to nothing, so I added that to give the outfit some pattern against the solids.  The shoes are Nine West and the brooch is an elephant brooch by Luxulite that was a birthday gift from my style twin, Meredith, and real life friend now (we met on Instagram despite that we grew up 10 minutes away from each other!).  While we're on the subject, Meredith and I started doing a #twinsietuesday on Instagram where every Tuesday we show off an outfit we have in common, because we have SO many!!!  (Her profile HERE.  My profile HERE.)
For the positivity portion of this outfit post, there's something I really want to say.  I'm ALL for being assertive, putting oneself first, and doing whatever it is that one needs to live the life they both need and want to live.  But there are countless classy, effective, and non-selfish ways to do so.  When people bulldoze over other people or don't consider someone else's feelings while making a decision, I just can't stand for it.  For example, if you're signed up to drive someone to the airport but last minute cannot do it because your boss needs you at the office and there's no two ways around it, obviously you have to do what it takes to keep your job.  But while telling your loved one that you cannot drive them to the airport anymore, you can stand your ground while still being apologetic and sensitive to the fact that you inadvertently put them in a bind.  Life is messy and things come up.  But if we can at least use intelligent and selfless language so at worst people can be mad at the situation rather than being mad at you, I think this world would be a better and trusting place.  Very few people mean to hurt people or let them down, but the way we communicate makes it harder to be understanding of why someone did so.  If we could all learn to be assertive and sensitive at the same time, that would eliminate a lot of problems.  That's just my two cents.  If you really have to let someone down, even if for the best of reasons, do it in a caring way that puts yourself in their shoes. People can't be mad if they know that you care.  It's easier to do than it seems.
When it came to naming this song, I decided to name it after the collection it came from rather than the dress.  The 90s hit "Peaches" by the Presidents of the United States of America came to mind, because while featuring a dress from June Bugs and Georgia Peaches collection...duh.  Fun fact: The Presidents of the United States of America said in some VH1 show (I Love the 90s or some countdown about songs from the 90s) that they started writing music for p0rn movies.  You're welcome for this piece of trivia!

I've recently added two pages to this blog, one that catalogues posts named after songs (like this post) and another that catalogues all of the concert stories.  Click the links on to see for yourself!  Happy Friday!

  4. You are so cute and your posts are so fun to read through. I agree...not being able to do something for someone you love doesn't mean you don't care...and communicating that is definitely key.

  12. I always say, communicate, communicate and then communicate more! It's not the easiest thing to do for many but when people do it right then it avoids lots of misunderstanding!

You look absolutely lovely, Lauren, that dress looks like it's made just for you!

  15. First, this outfit is so perfect and those shoes make you look like a real life barbie. Everything looks so great with your hair color!
Second, hell yes to this post. I think we live in a culture that makes people feel inferior and the only way to lift ourselves up is by tearing others down and it's awful. We need more people like you in the world!

  25. I agree that if you have to let someone down you should take care to be considerate of the person you're letting down. You have to take care of yourself first in the end but that is not an excuse to be selfish. Also - Twin Tuesday sounds like a great idea!

  26. That last picture is so adorable!! I love it! The collar on this dress is too cute. And I really like this shade of green with your hair color - loving the curls too. :) And I very much agree...you can still be assertive and sensitive. No reason to just be one or the other.
