Blue Monday

Greetings!  While a lot of my fashion errs on the side of pinup and retro, I love most dresses.  Unique ones, trendy ones, bohemian ones...they're all good as long as they're fun and interesting and something that I will grow with.  I had been wanting this dress from ModCloth for close to a year now and after some sales a few weeks ago I finally bit the bullet and got it, as it's often out of stock and for once it was in stock...and during a sale.  Sometimes it's just nice to have a dress like this because you can wear it to Target while feeling put together with minimal effort, to a party, to brunch...it goes with every event for the most part and shift dresses are supppperrrrr comfortable, more so than jeans and pinup dresses actually!

I love the print on this dress.  A lot of people who reviewed the dress on ModCloth complained about it being a print and not being embroidered, but I don't think that's that big of a deal.  It's very well done and it doesn't look cheap in the slightest.  The brand is Sunny Girl, which I own a lot pieces from.  This is one of their more well made dresses I feel, in that it's very durable and super silky to the touch.  Plus, it's lined!

This is an especially great Colorado dress because, as I'll be better explaining in a post coming up, we don't really have "normal" winters.  The mountains do, sure, but an hour outside the mountains has kind of weird weather system.  It can be 70 for a whole week in January with snowfalls bookending the week.  I took this photoset last week, a few days after our first snowfall (it melted right away, which is why there's no snow in the picture) and a few days before our next.  It was about 65 degrees and overcast, making this a fall perfect dress, especially paired with boots (brand: Soda) and such.  Rounding out the outfit is my first ever Erstwilder brooch (get ready to see tons of brooches on me...I'm becoming a brooch addict!!) and my heart shaped sunglasses from a beach store in Florida.  I know most people think of Colorado as being a winter wonderland for most of the year, but this is actually kind of a perfect outfit for late fall in Denver.

Thanksgiving is Thursday for those of us in America.  I'm not a holiday person--I'll save the whys for another time, but to say it's "Chandler adjacent" from the show Friends isn't wildly off base--but for the first time in a few years I will be partaking in festivities on Thursday.  Being purposely sidelined from holidays gives one a different perspective on it.  A day to give thanks is cool and all, but every day you should be thankful for something.  I do feel as though some people only take a small handful of days a year to take inventory of whatever goodness they have in their lives, and it kind of baffles me.  So if you're celebrating, definitely be thankful on Thursday...but make it be the first day of a new habit and be thankful the next day, and every day after that!

Music time!  New Order is relatively high up band of those I'd rank in my favorites.  I probably have between 50-100 favorites (I've never officially counted) and I'd ball park them not too far outside the top 20.  They're dance and rock at the same time and their songs seemed to have aged really well.  Sure, they're very 80s in some ways but they're also different enough where you could put them in the same genre as Bloc Party or Gold Frapp.  Being that this dress is blue and today is Monday...why not name this song after the New Order song, "Blue Monday"?  Happy Monday!

I've recently added two pages to this blog, one that catalogues posts named after songs and another that catalogues all of the concert stories.  Click the links on to see for yourself!  Happy Friday!
