Renegade Princess

Like this gothic Jenny skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing?  I thought it would be appropriate to debut this week, since it's just about Halloween!  Truth be told, I found it on eBay second hand for not as much as the site lists it over the summer but never got the chance to photograph it yet.  Happy accident!  I love that it's classic while edgy, which means it's easy to style in both a feminine way as well as a more rocker way.  This time I opted to mix prints, because I love mixing prints haha.  And there's just something about a pale pink against black...it's always one of my favorite combinations.  Rounding out this outfit I wore my Ellie Shoes saddle shoes that I haven't seen since colder months, a hair flower from Unique Vintage, and a faux leather jacket that I got from Marshalls that I've had for years.  I didn't fully intend for the jacket to make it's way into the shoot, but it was kind of chilly out and it took a few seconds for me to get used to the chill.  And hey, the jacket matches!

Is everyone gearing up for Halloween?  I was supposed to be in San Antonio this weekend but I postponed that for around two, possibly three months.  This month has kind of flown by and now it's suddenly Halloween weekend.  I've been invited to some parties hosted by local bands I like and such, but I don't think I'm going to them.  For one, I spaced a little on compiling a Halloween costume.  Second, I just don't care enough this year to be up for crowds and dealing with parking etc. Third, I'm just in the mood to focus on my never ending to-do list and work on revamping a project that took a hard left turn.  I typically love Halloween, it's one of the only holidays I participate in, but I don't think it's meant to be this year.  Oh well.  Hopefully I'll see fun costumes from you guys though!  And here's a flashback Friday of Halloween looks I complied last year.    And if you read it last year, it may be worth checking out again as I added last year's photos when I went as the first ever Barbie and my dogs went as dinosaurs haha.  And if you haven't seen that post yet, it chronicles my years as thinking less was more costume wise, and how I finally grew out of that and got way more creative with costumes.  Enjoy!

Quick public service announcement as a part of my positivity portion of this outfit post!  This is aimed a bit more towards Americans timing wise, but there are some universal truths so international readers can still keep reading!  On Tuesday Election Day is in the States.  It's not a huge election and mostly only community and smaller scale leaders and issues are being voted on.  If you are registered to vote, whip out the blue book that was sent to you and browse through it (if you haven't already).  It may seem unimportant, but small level politics set a precedent for national ones.  Plus, while it's tougher to change policy that directly impacts you at a more national level, it is a helluva a lot easier to have your voice be heard within your community, so these elections are still important.  And if you're NOT  registered to vote, click here to do so.  It'll be too late to vote in this election, but at least you'll be all set for the presidential one NEXT year!  I know election days vary in different countries, so if you're international this can just serve as a reminder to be on the lookout for your next election!
This was a tough post to name after a song!  Enough rock and metals bands have dark song titles with all kinds of monster sounding things in their name that would fit for a pseudo Halloween post.  But there's SO many Folter/Retrolicious dresses that I want that have all kinds of creatures, ghouls, and whatnot all over them that I know I'll want to save those titles for when I acquire those dresses, whether it's Halloween season or not!  Then I remembered this Sonic Youth song and I thought "Renegade Princess" was kind of appropriate for this post, both lyrically, sound wise and I am kind of dressed princess-y here...but not quite!  PS-I'm confident that you will be seeing several Sonic Youth titled posts, as they're not only one of my top 3 favorite bands, but they also have some super visual song names that go with my quirky taste and novelty prints.  I say this because this is already the second post that I've named after them (the first one is here).
