Pump Up the Jam

Heya!  I've been a little MIA with blogging world this week, but am looking forward to being back in it.  Coupled with some slight allergies, I've realized I was a little burned out from all creative projects I have going on and went into avoidance mode slightly (bad habit).  I meant to be back yesterday, as I have tons of Music and Fashion posts to catch up with posting wise, but last minute I got a chance to see the amazing and incomparable Jane Goodall give a lecture.  Making sure I could go to that meant shifting around my day some, and boy am I glad I did.  If you ever get the chance to see this esteemed and charismatic scientist, who's so full of grace and empathy, I highly recommended.  I felt privileged to see her in person.  And if you're eager for the next few music based fashion posts, next week I'll be back on track.

Sometimes I feel like I have bad luck in life.  I've had several "wrong place at the wrong time" situations and anytime I'm trying to change my supposed bad luck I feel like there's some proverbial hand on my forehead pushing me back like a child trying to get past a much bigger adult who stubbornly keeps walking in place anyway.  I felt a little bit like this when I realized that this Tatyana jam print dress on ModCloth went on sale...only to be sold out in my size.  Bad luck Blair strikes again!  But then on a whim, two days before my birthday I went on Tatyana's website.  I don't check there too often because they don't add new stuff regularly and seldom add things to the sale section.  Within a few seconds of being on the site, I couldn't believe my eyes as I read "It's a Steal Sale!  60%-90% off!"  At first I thought maybe it was just stuff that was already on sale and out of my size, as they've done similar sales like this before.  I looked on the first page and I couldn't believe my eyes...the things they were selling were items from 2015!  Lucky, lucky, lucky!!  Sadly, one dress I really wanted sold out before I entered the site but I got two dresses and skirt, plus a bag (and went back a few days later for some items...) immediately all for under $100.  (Each item was between $50-$130 each under normal retail prices).  Talk about lucky! And they didn't even advertise this!  I just happened to stumble upon it and later saw that they never mentioned it on Instagram or anything.  I don't even believe I got an email for it.  I immediately went into the other room where my phone was charging and texted my in real life retro pals (Meredith and Katie) and blasted this sale on my Instagram page where that was further confirmed that this wasn't being advertised as some of my retro friends had no idea this sale was happening, so I was glad to help them out!

While I'm not as in love with Tatyana brand clothing as I am say, Bernie Dexter or Pinup Girl Clothing, I really love the stuff that I do love from them.  And in 2015 they have been ON POINT with their designs and prints.  What's great about them is that they make quality vintage reproduction, so when I do find something I love from them I know that it's worth it.  Stocking up on a sale like this was a no brainer.
Usually I'm against wearing dresses with food of them.  Why?  I honestly can't pinpoint why I'm not into that...or why that usually not "my jam" har har.  This dress is one of those exceptions to the rule. For one, I don't have enough pink dresses.  And, pink and green make for a super fun combination in my book so I'm happy with the color scheme all around here.  The details of this print of all of the jam jars are just so fun though, especially in person.  I really love this dress.  It's still on Tatyana under their super sale (very limited sizing though) HERE.  Both ModCloth and Unique Vintage have it on sale as well.  Though their discounts aren't currently as deep, they have differently sizes available still.
I decided to be a goofball and use a Technotronic "jam" as my song title meets blog title name.  You may have noticed that tastes are typically super indie, a la Beck, Pulp, and Sonic Youth.  The thing is though, I'm really not that intimidating.  Full disclosure time: I WAS really mean about other people's music tastes until around 5 years or so ago.  That's when I mostly started to lighten up with life and get less judgy in general, but it's also when I realized I had no right to talk.  To say that I don't like soft rock, so bad they're good 80s and 90s dance hits, and other cheesy gems all around is a bold faced lie.  Guilty pleasures still bring pleasure, so I really can't deny I like cheesy songs.  So in short, I promise that my song titles as blog titles are not always going to be of a music snobbery variety ;)  Songs like this are just too fun to take music that seriously!  And this leads me to my motivational part of this post: if you hate/dislike something...why?  It's okay to have opinions and things that don't do it for you.  That makes you unique.  But when you use those dislikes as a crutch for a perceived superiority or means of segregating yourself from other people, take a step back and wonder why that matters or how it truly makes you come across.  Hating people, hating their tastes, or just hating in general almost never serves a purpose and it never puts you up on a pedestal.  I couldn't be more thankful that I learned to chill out about my likes and dislikes years ago because that kind of energy so isn't worth it.

  8. Happy Birthday!!! I hope you had a wonderful one. I loved reading this post because I couldn't agree more. It's okay to like what you like, but still be nice and open to other people who don't like what you like. I find that in music at least, if you are forced to listen to music you don't usually like, you may start to find a few songs that you do like:)

  9. If it's meant to be it will be! ;) The colours of this dress just stand out so incredibly and is so you! Styling and posing on point from head to toe! <3 I agree you really have to just take judgement out of the equation and realise that we all like and dislike different things and that's so ok, if we all agreed and liked the same things as they say life would be boring. I think the art of learning to respect other people and their opinions can be a learning curve for us all. You are bloody awesome and gorgeous Lauren! <3

  11. I love this dress and how you paired it with green heels - perfection! I only own one skirt from Tatyana but it is fantastic quality, and I've been meaning to buy a dress from them. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for these pop-up sales! And how incredible that you were able to see Jane Goodall speak! I would drop every thing too for that opportunity!
