Non-Jeans Based Sports Fan Outfits

Oye, it's (American) football season.  In terms of the major four sports franchises here in the states, my favorites are ranked as follows:

1. Baseball.  This is actually the only sport that matters to me.
2. Basketball.  I'm from a basketball family.  I can get into it on occasion.
3. Hockey.  Sure, why not?
4. Football.  Unless brunch is involved or Denver is in the Super Bowl, I'm out!

My personal ranking system aside, I acknowledge that football is a huge deal here in the states, and because it's a shorter season with less games, I usually get roped into being out with friends at a sports bar while some big game is on.  I'm not immune to showing team spirit, though jeans and a tee...not really my jam.  This was supposed to go out a few weeks ago with more outfits, but here are two of the six(ish) ideas I had on how to be vintage-y or feminine while having team spirit, and hopefully I'll post the rest of my ideas as the season goes on...and as my missing Broncos tee and TWO skater dresses  will hopefully reappear after my never ending closet reorganization project is finally done.  All colors are based on my adoptive "home" city of Denver, Colorado and the Denver Broncos colors (blue, orange, and white).

Go old school cheerleader:
Yes huh, it was TOTALLY necessary to pose like a cheerleader in these shots.  I'd say I almost regret bailing on my high school cheerleading auditions upon the realization that cheerleading was nothing like ballet and that I hated the jocks at my school, but nah.  It was just fun to act like a cheerleader for a quick couple of frames.  And because this is me, this is some kind of a retro cheerleading styling twist.  I wore this outfit almost exactly the same way when the Broncos miserably lost in the Super Bowl two years ago (but with orange tights and navy pumps), so this is 100% a style idea that's coming from personal experience.  If you own skater skirts, pumps, purses, or sweaters in your team's colors, why not style them in celebration of your city?
Go vintage and classy.
As I said in my most recent post gushing about maxi dresses, they're a great way to still wear dresses in the winter while covering your legs, so this is a super practical suggestion.  There's no reason in the world one can't be glamorous while they love sports!  But even if this is too much art deco to bring to your neighborhood sports bar, a casual cardigan or zip up hoodie could down play this look a tad.   That, and/or ditch the hair flower (not that that's as much fun!!).  But consider a vintage or modern maxi dress in team colors!  It could be fun ;)

  6. Football isn't huge here in Germany, so I don't think I´ll get the opportunity to dress up, but it is good to see that there are other options than the regular fan tee.

  7. This is a great post! I LOVE the cheerleader outfit! So cute. And you seriously have the most amazing maxi dresses! I really need to be on the lookout for more green and gold attire. :) I own entirely too many Packers shirts, and just try to get creative with what bottoms I pair them with. Haha. But I like the idea of still being stylish when I watch the games!

    1. Right? I meant to wear a Broncos tee with an orange skirt but I couldn't find the tee. Once you find the colored bottoms you want you'll be all set! XO

  8. I liked the cheerleader pose! I loved the top in orange, white and black and the skirt together, so sweet! I liked the heels with the outfit, all looks really great! Nice that your family likes basketball - I like it, but I was always too short to play it :) I looooved the maxi dress - it's really comfortable, practical and beautiful! You look totally cool and fabulous!

  9. LOL, love those outfits.. especially the cheerleading one! I want to see a video of you doing one of these cheers including gymnastics! :)

Over here in the Netherlands, it's mostly football ( not the American kind :-P ), but enthusiasm has dampened since we've been eliminated for the European Championships 2016. It'll be a quiet summer next year! :P

  26. I am not much of a sports fan myself but here hockey is realy big so when I went to the game I wore a very dressy outfit in the teams colors. So I appreciate that you look amazing to support your teams without wearing a jersey of some sort. I really love both of your outfits but that cheerleader one is so adorable and you even posed perfectly!
