Man oh man, am I struggling with keeping up with blogging world as of late.  It's been an unusual week, for sure.  It's possible for the rest of 2015 may be like this (it may not be too, as my schedule keeps changing on me and I've just stopped trying to predict the future), but regardless I will always come back if I go awol again.  Promise!

This dress!!!!  If you've been following me for a while you'll know that while I tend to favor mid-century novelty print skirts, I also have a weakness for 70s maxi dresses.  Fun fact: I hadn't even tried this dress on when I photographed this photoset!  You see, the weather gets really unpredictable here over the fall and winter.  I'm trying to do myself a favor and photograph as many outfits as I want to talk about on the blog--baring from collaborations that haven't happened yet etc--so I don't have to worry about wind and bad weather and have a lot of things ready to go without worrying about it.  So when I have time to photograph stuff I bring a few outfits in a Pinup Girl Clothing tote and change in my backseat between outfit shoots to save time, as I don't have a conventional backyard.  I had just gotten this 70s maxi dress in the mail last week, and threw it in with my other clothes on my way out the door and just trusted that it fit correctly haha.  Honestly, I wasn't nervous about the fit, as when you order vintage it comes with specified measurements before you purchase.  But, I was worried about how it would photograph as these dresses sometimes look like tents in pictures.  I don't think this one does (thank-you, vertical stripes?)...but you be the judge!
Style tip:  I'm banking on fun maxi dresses being my key to staying not only stylish, but also staying true to my style this winter.  I'm by default into feminine clothes AND vintage, so it's a good combination while covering one's legs during the coldest season of the year.  Obviously I'll let you know as winter goes on if this is in fact a successful idea, but for now this is my plan and I thought I'd share.

Winter or not, 1970s dresses are the easiest way to be glamorous while keeping it simple...and comfortable!  What's easier than just putting on a dress?  Nothing.  The 1970s are a weird era in fashion currently, as amongst vintage lovers the 1940s-1960s remain supreme.  And amongst modern folks, the 1970s is in fact slowly making a comeback with wide leg pants (remind me to showcase two awesome wide leg vintage pants I scored yesterday from a second hand shop for under $30!) but the art deco and disco like dresses are still ramping up for a comeback.  This dress is such a statement piece, and in addition to it being effortless it's also not a burden to wear by any stretch.  A dress like this can be worn on lazy errand days when you still want to look somewhat pulled together (I went to Target immediately after this shoot) but a dress like this can also be dressed up with accessories and glamorous hair for a wedding.  I really recommend vintage 70s era maxi dresses...for almost anything.

What are you styling cheats to keep it simple?
As for trying to promote positivity with the aesthetics part of my blog, heh heh, this week's a rough one and I'm almost drawing a blank as to what to say today.  The past week has been a sheer roller coaster of good and bad elements, which is part of why I went MIA.  Without being too candid, I guess one of my means of holding on tight is trying to make good with anything that anyone else in my life is going through.  Asking what they need, reaching out to an old friend, doing something I promised to do but haven't gotten around to yet etc.  We all go through rough patches.  One of the most humbling parts of the ups and downs of life is remembering that everyone goes through bad stuff and their pain is their own.  I'd like to think I do okay without this reminder, but at least remembering to make other people feel good when I'm not sure how to make heads or tails of my life at least keeps whatever pain I'm feeling from being in vain.  So if you're having a rough time, maybe trying to be a friend to others is the answer to pulling yourself out of that darkness.  I mean, it's not going to hurt the world.  And it can stop us from getting inside our own heads too deeply while hopefully adding good noise to someone else's life.  Win, win, win.

If you haven't guessed it yet, this song was named after The Smashing Pumpkins song, "1979."  It seemed appropriate for such a 70s dress!  Plus, it's one of my favorite Pumpkins song.  The video is below, and if you want to read about when I saw them in concert this summer click HERE.  Happy almost Friday, friends!

  16. The maxi dress is incredible! While I do love a good 70s maxi, I doubt I'll ever be able to pull of the bold and bright colours. You look absolutely smashing in it, though. There are times when we have to leave the internet to focus on life and help people around us, so your absence is completely understandable.

I hope you enjoy your weekend, Lauren!

  22. I hope things are looking up a bit, and you're not too stressed or anything! I felt like that last week as well, but it's great to be back.

I don't think the vertical stripes are tent like at all, in fact I think they make you look taller! I love the lime green heels as well.

  28. That is a gorgeous dress! Love the colours and it's totally you! :)

Also very nice to hear that I'm not the only one who tries to take advantage of good sunny weather for outdoor photo/video shoots! I usually bring multiple outfits.. and I just see if I feel like doing more sessions. It also depends on my photographer, of course. ;)

As for life in general, it's been very busy with ups and downs. I try to enjoy the few moments of peace and tranquillity with my friends and family. And help them if they need any help.

Hope you had a great weekend! :)
