Paris (Ooh La La)

Happy Labor Day to those who celebrate!  Here's the deal... summer may be over in regards to school is back in session and tomorrow will be after Labor Day.  But autumn doesn't officially kick off until the end of this month.  And as long as the weather will permit me, I'm going to be wearing summer dresses for as long as possible as I'm more into my warm weather wardrobe.  Fall is cool and all, but at the end of the day it's kind of the Sunday evenings of seasons; just like after Sunday comes Monday, after fall comes winter.  I am NOT a fan of winter, FYI.

Before going into the clothes, how was everyone's Labor Day?  Did you all do anything fun this weekend?  Mine ended up being a mixture of low key and productive.  It was supposed to be busier, but thank goodness it wasn't.  This summer was insanely busy and I'm slightly burned out.  There's a lot of my plate currently so sometimes relaxing, or delegating time towards other things, is a needed occurrence.

This is a Bernie Dexter dress that I wanted for forever.  Before ModCloth and Bernie parted ways, this was sold on ModCloth and was eventually discounted to under $50 (Bernie dresses retail at $156).  But when this dress went on the clearance rack I was still only getting into retro clothing and wasn't sure how badly I wanted this dress.  For me, getting into vintage and classic looks was not an overnight thing as it took me a minute to figure out which styles I liked and how far into the novelty print tunnel I would fall (VERY far, apparently haha).  Anyway, I regretted not getting this dress shortly after it sold out because I realized that a) I loved Bernie Dexter dresses and b) I loved this dress in particular.  I scored a blue version of this dress earlier this year, but I still wanted the yellow and pink version.  (Lemonade, anyone?)  Finally I was able to nab this beauty earlier this summer for around the $50 price tag from Bernie Dexter's eBay store.

For styling purposes I chose green accents because I was surprised at how neon yellow, almost a lime -lemon color this dress was in person.

This post is named after a song by Grace and the Nocturnals, "Paris (Ooh La La)," because there's eiffel towers all over my dress.  Have a listen:

  1. Glad that you had some time to relax, after the very busy summer! It was, indeed, very busy and above all, fast! Where is the rest of the year! Well, so is life and so are seasons. I loved your Bernie Dexter dress! It is sweet, feminine and I liked the way you paired it, with the nice bag and shoes - the color scheme is so beautiful and are you! Hope you enjoy these days that we can still wear summer dresses!

  2. The hint of green is so playful and fun with this look Lauren! Love it with the pink dress.

    1. Thanks! There's some green tone in the yellow, so I think that's why it worked so well ;)

  3. No Labour Day over here in the Netherlands, so today was just a normal working day. Those dresses and shoes don't pay for themselves. :-P

Looking lovely in that dress (good job on getting it on eBay) and love those matching heels and bags! :)

And I totally agree with your mentality.. as long as the temperatures are warm and nice.. dresses like these should be worn! :-D

  7. Lauren, your dress is beautiful as always. Love this flower print on you:)

I agree about wearing summer dresses for as long as possible. The heat doesn't want to leave Montreal, so I don't feel winter coming at all:)

  8. I really can't stand premature fall celebrations. I love fall too but man I really love summer and I am always so sad to see it go. This dress is fab with the bright colors and I am loving the fun heels also!

  9. Your dress is so pretty, I love it with the green

  10. Lauren, every single time I just fall deeper and deeper in love with your style and the green was the perfect choice, it makes the whole outfit pop that much more! LOVE IT!

  18. Such a cute print! Ah, Bernie dresses are just the best.
It's actuallly one of my pet peeves that people always rush seasons, and when Sept. 1st comes (or Labor Day), they say summer's over! So, I'm glad you're preaching the truth about fall!! Haha.

  19. That dress looks gorgeous on you!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
