Va-va VOOM Pencil Skirt

When I was younger, I definitely had the less is more approach in regards to clothing.  Short shorts, crop tops, tight and short dresses...all good in my youthful hood!  In many ways, I do not regret this at all.  Being super young is one of the only times you can "pull off" such a look, so why not milk it for all it's worth?  I counteracted skimpy outfits with girl next door/straight up tomboyish ensembles, so nobody ever truly judged me either or.  I love getting older (to an extent) and growing into classier looks.  That said, being so plugging into social media with blogging and seeing so many college aged girls in vintage attire, I also totally respect that they're bold and courageous enough to be so comfortable in their own skin to not necessarily show skin off.  Way to be original ladies!

That all said, there is a bit of a bounce back happening lately with me.  All last summer I wore my usual mid-century era dresses and circle skirts.  Sometimes I wore longer skirts with crop tops, a look I defend because you're still relatively covered up.  This summer I've been embracing more and more form fitting outfits, dress shorts, and skater dresses.  I've done a lot of work on my self esteem and body image this year, so maybe there's something going on there...that's my best guess at least.
I took these photos while in PA.  My mom gave me a weird look as I walked out the front door and I said, "Look, I wouldn't necessarily wear this out and about.  I'm experimenting a bit with this piece."  And she said, "Good."  This is HILARIOUS because my mom used to steal my clothes when I was younger and wore black leather pants to a teacher conference after I got too many detentions in a row to "make the teacher jealous" because she "didn't like her."  Pul-leeze.  Also, when my best girlfriends and I decided to be hookers for Halloween at the age of 16, my mom stopped get the camera. When parents change their tune after you're all grown up it's mind boggling and funny.

The thing is, I don't know if I would wear this out and about.  It's a little much, sure.  But it could be worse.  It's a pinup look with a modern twist.  I mean, the skirt goes to my knees.  I guess my rules are if I'm wearing a tube top the skirt has to be long.  If I'm wearing form fitting things then I should not have a lot of make-up on.  Style can be flashy without being trashy.  Last summer I considered wearing this exact look but with an identical pale pink top.  I chickened out a little, so I didn't wear it.  But honestly, Denver is really hot in the summer and the event I was going to wear it to was outside, so that's where I was coming from.

Where do you guys draw the line when it comes to showing off skin?

  30. I'm embracing my youth right now and trying on as much crops and shorts as possible, but I'm sure that whe I grow older, I'll still pair some of these with more conservative pieces just to get the most out of them. I'm LOVING the look! I'll probably wear a cardigan over, but other than that, it's such a great fun look!

  47. I think this looks rocks! Especially if it's warm out, I think you should totally wear this out! As for drawing the line when it comes to showing skin..I'm still figuring that one out. I've had it ingrained in my brain to never "show skin or wear anything tight"..I was constantly in the principal's office in middle/high school for wearing super innocent tops (but I had er developed before everyone else, so girls were constantly complaining about me). So, since then I've always been super conservative in how I dress. But seeing outfits like this and running a blog really make me want to be a little more adventurous in showing skin. One of these days I'll break out a crop top and a skirt! And every time I see you rocking a crop top I want to run out and buy one. So maybe soon I'll try it out. :) Thanks for being such an awesome style inspiration, Lauren!

  48. You sure do look va va voom in that pencil skirt
    lovely post xxoxo

  49. Loving this edgy look! You wear it well! Me, I'm fifty-something, so I'm not showing as much skin (smile) as I did a few years back. LOL. Although, I'd say my shorts and skirts are likely shorter than those worn by many women my age. :) T.

  50. Your skirt is so fun!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Win $100 Towards a JORD Watch!

What time is it?  THE TIME IS NOW.  Okay, now that I've gotten my favorite line from a Kids in the Hall sketch that I saw when I was 12 out of my system let's get to business!  The time is actually time to register for a watch giveaway and/or get a coupon, all thanks to JORD Watches. (Pronounced "Youd" as in like toad or road.  OR "Yoda" with no "a.")

Check out THIS LINK to try to get $100  towards a JORD watch and free sizing AND shipping.  This will go on for two weeks, so hop to it!  You can also get a $25 coupon with the code "blairosaurus" over the next two weeks too.  And if there's any menfolk out there reading, JORD has both women and mens watches.  Yay!

I'm rocking the Frankie Purple and Plum and seriously loving it.  I love how big the face is and it compliments my hair and many of my frequent signature colors that I wear.  The watches are made from wood so they're very durable and sturdy.  I thought the watches w…

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
