Lauren Blair in Mary Blair: Mother and Child Jenny Skirt

Oh my goodness!  I am SO excited to FINALLY be sharing this piece of clothing/artwork with y'all!  I've had this skirt for like, a month, but things got so busy I couldn't get it photographed etc.  This skirt and the Commuters skirt were the two Mary Blair pieces from Pinup Girl Clothing that I absolutely had to have!  I love novelty prints and the whole Mary Blair line is full of great ones.  But what I loved about the Commuters and this one, Mother and Child, was how different they were compared to any novelty print that I already own as well as most ones that I have seen out there in the world.  While I rock all kinds of very loud novelty prints and will likely always do so, I've been growing an appreciation for the simplicity of a novelty print like this one.  The colors are bold, so it's still a super fun skirt skirt, but you kind of have to look twice to be able to see what the print is always about.  So much of my personal life has become a mantra of "less is more" in 2015, and to some extent it's been bleeding into my clothing choices as well!

I decided that my first styling of this outfit had to be a super sunny one.  The pink and blue in this is such a rich tone, and the white goes so perfectly with it.  Instead of doing more white, or black, I decided to add another color to the mix and just make everything pop more than it already does.  I opted to do a bright but slightly mustard yellow for the complimentary top and shoes.

Go CUBS!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

What time is it?  THE TIME IS NOW.  Okay, now that I've gotten my favorite line from a Kids in the Hall sketch that I saw when I was 12 out of my system let's get to business!  The time is actually time to register for a watch giveaway and/or get a coupon, all thanks to JORD Watches. (Pronounced "Youd" as in like toad or road.  OR "Yoda" with no "a.")

I'm rocking the Frankie Purple and Plum and seriously loving it.  I love how big the face is and it compliments my hair and many of my frequent signature colors that I wear.  The watches are made from wood so they're very durable and sturdy.  I thought the watches w…

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
