Classic AND Vintage Ladylike Style

True vintage and vintage inspired style of dressing is my bread and butter.  But sometimes I prefer timeless looks too.  This is what I would consider a timeless feminine look.  It could be from the later mid-century, but a girl with no flair for vintage styles could possibly assemble an outfit that looks like this.  In fact, the skirt and earrings are from ModCloth but they are the only vintage reproduction piece of clothing from this outfit (and I'm not convinced the earrings are even exclusively vintage repo).  My shoes are Jessica Simpson via DSW, the belt is from a Forever 21 dress (sunglasses are from there too), the shirt is Old Navy, the necklace is H&M, the head scarf is from Ross.  See?  All of those are relatively modern stores and brands.
When I first started toying with the idea of fashion blogging in 2013ish, I thought it would be fun to document not only my outfits and personal style, but the fluidity of fashion.  I'm growing to hate my url name that the poet in me was once proud of because I've been feeling more rock and roll lately than 1950s and all things "demure".  I'm also growing comfortable in my own skin in a way I've never done before, and wanting to show off more skin for the right reasons (as opposed to the misguided youth reasons that I was TOTALLY guilty of up until a few years ago).  So despite that I do feel sexiest dressing slightly more lady like...I'm going through some kind of rebellion phase of sorts where that is not exclusively the case.  This "demure" name may have been a bad accidental branding, haha.  I am seriously considering changing it, so if you've been through that experience please comment with any tips and advice on making it pain free!!!

BUT, wearing an outfit like this not only fits for the multitudes of avenues a "demure" blog like mine could go down, but it also gets back to my pre-roots of fashion blogging of wanting an excuse to be 100% fluid in fashion.  Life is too short to be boring, stuck in a box of sorts, or limit yourself to anything that could be amazing.  Personal style should never be about superficial means or keeping up with the proverbial Jones', as much as it should be about having the part of your day when you are getting dressed make your day that much better!

What are YOUR fashion rules for stepping outside your norm and experimenting with new styles?

  1. Loved this post! Such a cute, timeless outfit and I can't get over those shoes. I sometimes regret the lace & whimsy name as it can be a little limiting when I branch into lifestyle + mental health. If you need someone to bounce new blog names ideas off of, you know where to find me! ❤️

  2. I guess my rules are that I don't think I'm ever in one box or another... And thankfully I didn't allude to any box in my blog name!! I'm glad I chose something pretty non-descript now as it does mean I feel I can write about whatever I want. If you do change yours, my tip is make it as abstract as possible! CC x

    1. That is good!! I have an idea or two that I'm mulling over that would encompass both my personality and a touch of my style, but I'm still sleeping on it! Thanks so much for the advice!! XO

  3. Modcloth is definitely a great place for vintage/timeless pieces. This is a great look. Definitely timeless. Love the yellow heels.

  8. Love how you took modern brands and turned them into a timeless outfit! A person's style is always changing or evolving so it can be difficult to pick a blog name that will suit you forever! Maybe just pick something you like...could be even something like your favorite flower! Endless possibilities lol.

Go CUBS!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …
