September Favorites!

My Brady Bunch of YOUR most favorite outfits on Instagram!

Another month gone by!  September was a great month for me with fun times with friends, my birthday, and traveling!  The weather was unusually back and forth hitting the 40s(!) one weekend, but usually it was still pretty hot so I still got to wear my favorite and newer dresses out and about!  Above were YOUR favorites and below are my  5   7 favorites (I really couldn't just pick 5 this month).  Instead of doing a collage of my runner-ups like I did last month, I decided to more of an 'outfit round-up' of brands and how frequently I represented my favorites.

Dress-Love Culture, Shoes- Chinese Laundry

I seriously love this photo.  The fact that I'm kind of backlit works with the orange tones of the dress and shoes.  This was the weekend my hair was the darkest after an uh-oh and since I'm (temporarily) growing out my bangs (traveling to too many humid cultures the next few months to deal with them!) I felt like it worked with the colors, style, and of course made me feel oh-so Megan Draper-esq.  I love this picture so much that I actually uploaded it as a new Facebook profile photo-something I haven't done in months!

Glasses- Flea market find, Bandeau- Forever 21, Skirt- Pinup Girl Clothing, Bag- Kate Spade, Shoes- Jessica Simpson

I am so happy I got to wear this outfit!  I'd worn this skirt before, but had wanted to pair it with this bandeau but the weather and 'dress appropriately to various situations' gods were seemingly against me all summer.  Just as official summer was winding down, I got to bust out this outfit!

Cardigan- Forever 21, Dress-Retrolicious/Folter/Modcloth, Boots-Madden Girl, Purse-Kate Spade

This is another favorite photo because my lil Border Collie Lucy is in it!  This was one of the first days that truly felt like fall, so this outfit replaced another one I had in mind!  Happy accident :) I love my Brady Bunch house dress and as some of my Instagram friends pointed out, it kind of matches some of the houses on the street I'm on!

Dress- Bernie Dexter, Boots- Steve Madden

At the end of the day, this picture is a simple snapshot in my hotel room in Newark, NJ.  Fair.  BUT, I had long coveted this Bernie Dexter print but couldn't find the right style for me that it came in and at the right price.  And then someone put it on eBay in the halter version (my favorite kind of a Bernie Dexter dress) second hand and it's the best fall dress ever.  The colors are spot on with the orange tones, it's light enough for Indian summer but easy to accessorize with cardigans and (as pictured) boots for more brisk days.  But the neutral boring hotel background compliments the colors and sometimes all you need is a simple backdrop as I feel this dress can stand alone.  PLUS, my hair is small feat in a humid culture like north Jersey!

Headscarf- Target, Shirt- J Crew Factory, Skirt- Tatyana Boutique, Shoes- Unknown

This picture is hard not to like.  It's kitschy and cutesy and the vintage inspired skirt adds to the novelty of this 1950s-esq pose and feel to the look.  My filter makes my hair darker than it was really was (trying to lighten it again this week-wish me luck!) and honest to goodness, I don't look this pretty in real life so obviously I'm biased about this picture!!

Glasses- Gifted, Dress- Bernie Dexter, Bag- Kate Spade, Shoes- Steve Madden

I got this dress for $46 from Modcloth this month after wanting it desperately since it came out.  That alone makes me biased towards this photo.  But I also feel like the cool background works with it too-which isn't something you can always plan when 75% of your pictures are from your real life, with real stories/events behind them, and not staged (if you want daily and at least pseudo quality photos, sometimes you have to stage pictures in advance.  But that's another story for another day!).  My friend who took this photo also has an amazing eye for photography.  And, this Kate Spade bag is actually my favorite purse I own but I don't get to wear it too often because it really doesn't go with a lot of my wardrobe.  And, with the accidental darker kind of worked with the black and white motif.   There was no way this photo/outfit couldn't be a win x100 for me.

Dress- Tatyana Boutique, Belt- Forever 21, Shoes- Ralph Lauren

I only picked one of my birthday dresses for my favorites this month!  I love the Hell Bunny Souvenir  dress I wore to my Colorado celebration, but I actually intended to wear my hair down and curl it that day.  That was within the week of my coloring disaster and my hair felt fried so I didn't want to put a hot curler to it.  To top it off, it felt greasy (with red hair I only wash it every 2 days but with the darker hair the grease showed more with that method and I didn't have time to wash and dry it when I realized it was a problem) so putting it up was a last resort.  I love the way I accessorized the look (with red accessories and not white like most photos on sites selling the dress) and my hair doesn't look bad, but your own perceptions can tint your view of anything so I'm believing I can do better with it ;)  With my PA birthday dress (above), my hair was remarkably behaving in a humid culture, I'm happy to have neon shoes that match the neon undertones, and the lighting here was really on my side.  (#nofilter) Plus it was in my PA front yard and my mom is selling the house, so yay for a good picture in my childhood stomping grounds!  And, as this dress is a touch more fancy than other pinup dresses, I'm not 100% sure when the next time I will wear it (though I'm sure I'll make an excuse sooner than later!).

So instead of doing runner-ups like last month, I thought I'd do more of an "outfit round-up" and break down the different brands I wore in terms of frequency.  Still finding my groove with this monthly segment and seeing what works!!  (I'm counting dresses and skirts, not shoes, bags, or least not for now)

October Expectations

What will October bring?  This month is tricky to predict!  A lot of people hear "Colorado" and think it's a non-stop snow storm.  In the mountains that's true (I think it's snowing or just did as I type this), but Denver is actually a lot warmer than my former Northeast climate and other cities known for cold weather.  Indian summer could exist through Halloween.  Hell, on New Year's last year I barely needed a jacket...  That said, don't hate because at some point in the winter there will be a 2-4 week stretch of 2 degree weather.  And, if you follow me on Instagram, you will likely see me post one snow photo this month-seriously-but it will also go back up to 70 the next day.  By November I will likely have to wear pants occasionally unless I succumb to being really cold getting around (I've done it before!)...but October is kind of hard to predict.  I imagine there will be some hot days for sundresses and heels, but mostly dresses with cardigans, tights, and/or boots.  And there may possibly be a sweater day or two in there.  Either way, we'll find out!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
