Crop top lovin'

Right now there is a plethora of crop tops and tube tops in any given store that you shop at.  When I was in high school, college, and my early 20s I was all about the "less is more" mantra of clothing.  As I've gotten older, I still like to have fun with fashion but I also want to be more ladylike...or "demure" if you will. ;-)

Another trend in fashion, whether you're a mall enthusiast or vintage/vintage reproduction obsessed like myself is the high waisted trend.  I find that pairing high waisted bottoms with crop tops can make an outfit more classy than sleazy, while still having fun and staying youthful with fashion.  Plus, as the August temperatures rise it's important to keep cool!!  Here are some examples of how I've shown skin this summer while-hopefully-still pulling off more classic and ladylike looks:

My best guy friend's (really like an older brother to me) fiancée (!!! new exciting news !!!) had a birthday  the first weekend of August and we were at a local eatery and bar with an amazing patio to hang out on.  The sun was blazing even well past 6PM so I was very thankful that I had on a skimpier top...though the choice of a black skirt was somewhat counterproductive!!

By far the last flamingo print you will see me adorn.  Love, love, LOVE flamingo prints!

Later that same weekend a few of us went up to Boulder, Colorado to watch our dear friend Brittany compete (and finish!!) in the Iron Man race.  This was another boiling lava hot day and I knew I'd be in the sun a lot.  Frankly, I find that skirts-long or short-are way more comfortable in the summer than jeans and a tee.  There's a lot more breathing room in general so it hardly matters what the length of the skirt is, as long as it's a light fabric.  Knowing we'd be in the sun and being uber proud that I haven't messed up my tan with obnoxious bathing suit strap lines I opted for this tube top to keep it that way.  All in all, I was fairly comfortable this whole day.

Outfit details: Glasses- Wet Seal, Tube Top- JCPenny, Bag- Kate Spade, Shorts- Forever 21, Flip flops-Old Navy, Bike-true vintage and a gift

The one time I showed a lot of skin this summer was when my friends and I did our annual biking trip around Fort Collins, Colorado to visit the different breweries they have to offer up there.  I didn't really want to mess with a skirt while biking around and somehow this more old fashioned summer look seemed borderline appropriate for cruising around on my vintage bike!  Plus, again, I really wasn't messing with or adding to any tan lines!  And I was still comfortable!

Outfit details: Top- Forever 21, Skirt- Modcloth/Bea and Dot, Shoes-Nine West

And for my final outfit I will show you a fun summer outfit I picked to wear while going around Denver with a good friend of mine this past weekend.  This awesome skirt I got during the most recent Modcloth super sale they did and I love it because I think with all the colors and navy background I will be able to wear it in all seasons.  For the end of summer styling, I chose this orange tube crop to bring out the orange with my orange and beige Nine West pumps.  Luckily my friend has this amazing backyard that added to the feel of a photo!!!

Thoughts on demure bottoms with not so much tops??  XO- have a great day!

Hey, all!  I'm a big baseball fan and my mom is from Chicago so I grew up hearing about the Cubs history and am pretty amped to be here at game 7!  Anyone else into this year's World Series or have a fan favorite they're rooting for?
Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post showing my fandom!  I decided to be silly and wear my Cubs tee with a skirt (same as my zombie skirt) from Retrolicious via ModCloth with bears all over them...get it?  Hehe. I'm not into totally normal sports attire, as I exhibited HERE. Stay safe tonight if you're out watching tonight!

Ocean Front Members Only

Is this a style post only I could bring you or what?  Not only did I mix prints (three times, as the Forever 21 shirt is gingham, the ModCloth briefcase is dinosaur printed, and my true vintage skirt is an ocean front border print!) but I'm mixing vintage with modern fashion.  It seems that many vintage-y bloggers tend to stray from any trends, which is silly to me because these bomber jackets are SO comfortable and practical for between seasons weather (and frankly, Members Only IS a vintage brand)!  I tied this whole look together with using the Members Only Satin Washed Boyfriend Jacket in burgundy with these platform heels from Amazon by Dadawen.  I feel the burgundy bookends bounce off the greens and blues nicely.

How's everyone's week been?  Thanks for allowing me to take a week off!  Not only did I have obligations at the Comedy Central Stage and the Upright Citizen's Brigade stage this week, but I was hosting one of my very best friends who came to visit me!  …

Comedy and Tragedy

It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.  I generally hate cliche quotes that can easily be slapped on memes or on the coffee mug of a basic b!tch, but I'm hard pressed to find a better phrase to describe my life currently.  In short: I've been having the most fun that I've ever had in the eight months since I moved to LA, but then the emergency breaks got slammed on my life when my mother fell gravely ill and passed away two weeks later on June 6th.
I'm currently back in LA, after being gone for three weeks.  I'm looking forward to continuing my comedy journey, as I feel it will save me from myself at this time.  But while I'm functioning okay as I'm still in a great deal of shock and my current mode is auto pilot, certain hours of the day prove to me that I'm very jumbled up and confused about my mom's passing.  I suddenly don't know what I'm in for and I don't know what I'm doing.
Not knowing what I'm doing …
